I visited the local hardware store and was disappointed that they didn't have a single axe handle. I was prepared to pay extra for the convenience of getting it at the local store. Since convenience was out I checked amazon looking for the cheapest full size handle. When it arrived I happy to discover the handle was high quality and sturdy. I watched a tube video on properly installing it on my axe head and now my axe is better then it ever was.

Restored a 100+ year old axe head, fit was fine. Found a small hairline crack near top of handle after finishing. I wont be using it for heavy duty cutting at least.

So this review really depends on which handle they send you. I've purchased 3. The first one I purchased had the grain going on an angle (middle pic)...not great, but I kept it anyway. Ordered a second one (left pic)...gain growing perpendicular to the handle = bad/weak (sending back). Ordered a 3rd (right pic)...grain lines going parallel with the handle = strongest.SO, there you go.
