I do a lot of camping...maybe 30 nights a year...and like my UCO candle lantern for a warm glow at night. The citronella candles DO work for mosquitos in the evening. I prefer that to bug spray. And they burn a long time.

I love my lanterns. We purchased the one candle and the three candle UCO 9 hour lanterns. I'm sure they are great for camping but we have blackouts sometimes for days and these are wonderful. I feel that they are safe and the flame is protected by the glass. Who ever invented these lanterns used commonsense and I especially love the cup warmer with the 3 candle lantern. I purchased extra regular and Citronella candles for when I sit outside at night. Well made, lite but sturdy and easy to use. Oh, I even use the one candle for when I bake salmon in the oven for get rid of the fish smell. Again, I love my lanterns.

Ah, the Jersey Shore in spring, summer, and fall! Henry Hudson, British Pilot of the Dutch Half Moon, wrote in his journals about the "Musquitters of the salt marshes" a very long time ago. They are still as vicious as when Hudson was plying the waters. I have lived adjacent to a salt marsh since 1979. Bug zappers just draw mosquitoes from the marshes. Those were given to a neighbor by 1980. A couple candles burning around my back deck make less a victim of these creatures. Life is good with planning and a few simple supplies.

Look, if you live in the middle of the desert, these will work great. You won't see a single skeeter. You'll be find.If ya live in a place like Virginia where the mosquitoes are polite with a medium density population, you'll be fine. Might still catch a bite or two - but it won't be so bad. Make sure ya treat your clothes.Okay, now if ya live in the middle of a swampy hell like say uhh, Mississippi, USA; them dawggon skeeters will carry you and your little lantern on down to their swampy lair and devour you. Pretty sure them mosquitoes were laughing at me for using one of these candles to protect me, too.So... you might still wanna use somethin like a spray or something. Lavender, permethrin, off, whatever ya prefer to use along with this and a net if you're deep south. How I use this fella, is I put it in my lil lantern and then I hang it by my tent door using a sturdy stick in the ground to keep the skeeters away when I go in for the night. I love it.It's safe enough to use inside the tent for lighting as well with the little UCO single candle lanterns. They're great.Enjoy.

Mosquitos here in MN, especially this time of year after we get all the spring rains are HORRIBLE! I tested a candle out last night around dusk to see how well it did. I put it in the middle of my patio table, lit it and waited for the swarm!Couple of things i noticed. The smell is not as strong as I thought it would be. Ive had some Citronella candles in the past that are so strong they almost give you a headache. This was more mild and not at all unpleasant.About 20 minutes before total dark I saw my first mosquito buzzing around me. Over that next 20 minutes I noticed several more, probably 15 more total.. These must have been the super mosquito's that made it through because if I walked 30 feet from my table I was immediately attacked from all directions. This product will not deter every mosquito in your backyard but it does make a big noticable difference. I am excited to try it in a couple weeks when I do the Superior Hiking trail and the mosquitos are gnarly! I would recommend!

These candles are suppose to last 9 hours, they didn't even make it 1 hour. All they did was ruin my expensive REI candle lanterns. This wax just melted right through the candle holder & onto the springs if you're familiar with the REI latern. Horrible product.
