This works great for printers and some CNC machines. However, I needed it for a GameShark v3.2 for N64 and those only work with a *very* specific USB-to-parallel cable. This was not one of those.I am leaving a good review as the cable does what it's supposed to. I unfortunately could not find it's multiplexer chip to confirm it was compatible with my use case online, so in case anyone else is looking, this is not compatible with the N64 GameShark. For that use case, my suggestion is a PCI Parallel port for desktop computers. Compatible USB adapters have become nearly impossible to find since 2010.

Didn't work for my application which was connecting an old CNC machine, but the product should work for most other things using this port like printers etc.

So, I have a very old, very reliable parallel printer (HP Laserjet 5P) that used to run off a printer server. I had some network changes that made me unable to use that anymore. I wanted to run this printer off an old iMac running Ubuntu. This machine has no parallel port. This simple cable did the job. Hooked it up, turned it on, logged onto CUPS and there the printer was. Printed both the Ubuntu test page and web pages. Seems well made but I can't speak to durability yet. Save me a lot of money either buying a new printer or a new printer server.

The product description photos show that it will work with a scanner. I attached the UGREEN cable to my Windows computer, and the USB device was identified as "Prolific Technology IEEE-1284 Controller", Description: "USB Printing Support".But, the various scanner software packages I tried, which use TWAIN to recognize scanners, did not detect my Minolta F-2900 film scanner, connected via DB25.I emailed UGREEN, and they informed me that my scanner uses SCSI DB25, not parallel. So, my fault for not getting a SCSI adapter.

I wanted this for much the same reason as anyone else will: I have a great old printer but nowhere to plug it into. Mine is an HP1100.Actually, that's two problems in one: a hardware one and a software one. I wanted to sack the Windows 2003 server and its parallel port, so I replaced it with a Windows 2012 R2 Server and bought a parallel port for my new motherboard. Perversely, this fixes the hardware problem, but W2012 just recognises the printer attached to the port and says that there's no suitable driver. I tried using VirtualBox to run an OS under W2012 to handle the print service, but this seems to be an emptier territory than many north of Montreal: there is in principle a virtual parallel printer service in VirtualBox, but in practice it just doesn't work even in basic circumstances. This device just fixes all this at a stroke for the price of two beers. Plug the printer in via the USB port and it all just works, with no VirtualBox, setting up a virtual printer port and immediately installing the required HP-1100 (MS) driver. Perfect. Now in theory this device is even better, it's a full bidi port, so should also handle the scanner on this HP. But that would require an HP driver, I think, and they don't offer one for these later OSs. Since the device is now presented via USB I reckon VirtualBox could now fill in on that bit, hosting older HP drivers, but I haven't tried yet.

I needed to use my old Panasonic 24-pin dot matrix printer on myWin7 computer (that had no serial or parallel ports) - so I boughtthis USB-to-parallel DB25 adapter. This is how I set it up:1. Connect the printer to the DB25 socket. Turn the printer on, andconnect the USB cable to the computer. The PC automatically configuredthe adapter, so I didn't have to worry about device drivers.2. Go to the Control Panel, and select "Devices and Printers". Select"Add a printer", then select "Add a local printer".3. Select "Use an existing port", and select "USB001 (Virtual printerport for USB)". DO NOT use "LPT1 (Printer port)" !!!!4. You will be asked to identify your printer. Unfortunately "Panasonic"wasn't listed, so I used "OKI", and specified "OKI Generic dot-matrix24pin printer".5. An icon will appear in the "Devices and Printers" box, and you cannow use the printer.I consider this product to be very useful, and well worth the price.
