I already have feeler gauges to measure ring gap, so I got the kit without the feelers. Gapping the rings is a must have for building a boosted engine that will last. On a ~3.5 to 4" piston you can run up to like 0.040" gap without any serious blow by. As the saying goes, "if you gap too much, only you will know. If you gap too little, everyone will know".This is a must have, cheap tool that should go along with a ring gap filer and a piston ring compressor sleeve. The tool itself looks like it will work just fine, it sets the rings down evenly and into a repeatable depth. You can even measure the gap with the tool still installed, can't do that with a bare piston easily.

Nice universal tool for accurately squaring piston rings in the bores.Yes you can use a piston (not as accurate due to piston rock) and you can use bore specific tools (which limits you to one bore size).I've got other ring squaring tools including those meant for one specific bore size and really didn't need this tool but, I wanted to see if it was worth the price and I would say absolutely yes. This is a great tool that easily covers numerous bore sizes and it's simplicity makes it very easy to accurately install and use. Simply place it on the deck of the block with the mandrels in the bore, loosen the thumb screws and expand the mandrels until the all make contact with the cylinder and tighten them down.
