The ones pictured are 12-year-old original elements out of a tank that was never maintained. The tank that was never maintained had a 6-year warranty. Would you believe that the one with the giant chunk of buildup was actually the one that worked? Because either did I. The ones I removed were 3,500 Watts the ones that I ordered from Amazon or the upgraded version with 4500 WattsThey screwed in with a few wraps of pipe tape and aren't leaking. I screwed the wires back on to the contacts held fine again I feel like this is a five-star one-star situation they work just fine. Will update if something goes wrong in the next two or three years.Easy do it yourself thingy I think you need a one and a quarter inch socket I ended up just grabbing up a pair of pliers cuz I was frustrated. Also don't forget to turn your breaker off to the hot water tank.

One of the elements seem to work well, the other one has been in for 10 days and shorted out. Luckily I was at home and there is a smoke detector right by my hot water heater. I has able to catch it in time before any real damage. You can make your own decision but I will be going to the local hardware store and buying replacements.
