I recently purchased the Upgraded Brighter LCD Display Night Vision Power Meter Plug and it has been a game changer in my efforts to monitor my energy consumption. The LCD display is bright and clear, making it easy to read the information displayed. Simply plug it in and it starts monitoring your energy usage right away. Pros:It works for my needs. I have just used it to test various things from computers to small kitchen appliances, to christmas lights.For my basic needs I found this to be much more of a value than the kilawatt and other more expensive adapters. Those devices still are great things for more professional grade tasks.Cons:The display is on the wrong end of the device, to where the display part is at the top above the power plug passthrough. It makes it impossible to use it at all with a power strip when testing PC equipment. This orientation does make it easy to read when connected directly to an UPRIGHT power outlet, but not for any other ways. A rotatable power outlet with a switch would have been a great addition for this little device.No surge and spike protection. I saw no mention in the manual of any such protections for this device.No power switch for the device power outlet. Many small appliances do not have power switches on them. I wound up using a single outlet adapter with power switch with this device, because I didn't feel like zapping it or frying the meter when hooking up a waffle maker to it directly with the power on.Other thoughts:Can be a bit hard to read in sunlight and bright areas, but not bad enough to be a Con for a deduction.I would like to see them make a device that is more user friendly with a power strip. I don't like plugging my electronics directly into the wall, and as far as I know- this device does NOT have any surge protection. Maybe even a version with an inline meter on a cable, similar to an inline laptop AC power pack.I haven't gotten much into the options to see the various costs and other stuff that this adapter can calculate. I haven't really found the other options to be useful, because the data gets cleared every time you unplug the device.

This is an amazing little product and a massive upgrade over the non backlit competitors. It is great to get an idea how much power some of my high-powered devices pull. I have a custom pc that is easily able to pull 1200 watts. this helps me keep an eye on my peak power draw and help to know if I can add that fourth monitor to the circuit or not. It is also very helpful for my audio system as my amp in standby pulls around 300 watts so again I know if I am pushing the limits of the circuit. My only real gripe is that there is not an always on function for the back light, you have to interact with the device for it to light up. This was a real bummer for when I had it located in an entertainment center out of arms reach.

I bought this simple device to get an idea of my electrical consumption in order to size or properly use my generator. I can identify the usage for each individual appliance/device in a given time span. This data is also valuable if you are trying to size a backup battery system, which I may be in the future.
