I own several "converters" which turn one form of video output into another type, allowing, say, devices which have only RCA audio-video output to be displayed on HDMI-only-input devices. I have a pretty nice collection of these devices.I've also seen a few "converter cables" which are not powered converter boxes, and I've had more mixed results in those cases. Mind you, I'm not an expert with video-signal conversion... so I'm not entirely sure why in some of those cases. I have some ideas, but I'm not 100% certain.So, I was a little dubious about the idea of a DisplayPort to HDMI converter-in-a-cable... rather than in a "converter box." However, as it turns out, my fears were unwarranted. This cable, for me, works flawlessly on any of the several setups I've tested it with.I'm guessing that translation from DisplayPort to HDMI is pretty straightforward, and that the entire thing can be done on a tiny chip found in one of the two ends of this cable. (Apparently, going in the other direction is a bit more complicated, though?)In any case, this, despite not looking much different from any other "dumb" cable, does the conversion flawlessly (in my experience, anyway). If you need this sort of cable, you'll be pleased with this one.

Bought a new video card and three of these cables to run my three monitors. I have ended up replacing them with Best Buy cables. They would drop connectivity to the monitor from the video card. I would have to switch them to another HDMI port on the back of the monitor to get them to work. Last one died when I did a software update from MS and I could not get the cable to connect and pass a signal. Been frustrated with them starting about 6 months after I purchased them. Save your money.

I just bought this today and want to try it out but unfortunately It didn't connect my laptop to the monitor so I can have 2 screens and was very loose and tried with another and was the same thing, nothing was showing up on the screen.
