New laptop did not have a 9 pin serial (rs232) port for plc connections. Micro logic or slc. Was able to use my old cables with this usb to serial adapter with no drivers to install (windows 10). Did not have to buy the Rockwell usb cables set for 400 dollars.

It was easy to use but quit working after 5 months of only occasional use to connect my laptop to Megasquirt MS3PRO EVO.
