This 'meander' style template produces an extraordinary tessellation pattern that is at a home in both traditional quilts and more modern designs.

You can use this technique by comfortably moving the quilt under the needle. The free-motion quilting ruler will "tell" them where to go next, and the ruler can help you make complex stitch patterns by following the edges of the free-motion template.

I'm pretty new at FMQ and I find it hard to randomly meander and have it come out well. This worked well for me and I think after using it for a few more quilts my hands/brain might be trained to do it without the template...for me it was a good investment. Well made, exactly as pictured. The only caveat was with my machine my ruler foot would sometimes get caught on the inner points so I learned how to manipulate/hold them down as I went.

I think this quilting stencil would be amazing if you have the foot that fits in the grove. I don’t know if it was my free motion foot or my low shank machine but I really struggled with it and often it would get caught, I broke two needles. I ended up using a chalk piece and drew on the quilt using it as a traditional stencil. I will continue to try this stencil with my new machine to see if that can work.
