These control knobs are perfect to mount on 1/4" shafts. The knobs are plastic but have a metal sleeve and metal set screw to attach to the shaft. Reasonably priced.

Be careful of shaft size. Will not fit 1/4 inch shafts good. Must be designed for metric non common u.s historical shaft size. Will work but not concentric on common shaft devices.
