My wife is a piano teacher, and the lid on her grand piano actually fell on one of her student's fingers. Fortunately, she wasn't hurt but it could have been bad. I bought this device, and there is no longer any danger of that happening again. The lid now shuts very slowly, allowing plenty of time to move fingers out of the way. Because it is the same color as her piano, you really don't even notice that it's there. Installation was easy, and there's no longer any chance of little fingers getting smashed.
