This appears to be a quite handy small device. I've not used it directly on a car yet, but have tested it with a number of other cables I use with electronics and it makes it quite easy to track down a specific cable when there are a number of them with the same color or they stretch over a long distance. I normally use my multimeters for continuity, but having that available when I don't have a multimeter with me is a nice plus.I like that it uses 9v batteries as I normally have less issues with them leaking after long times of storage when I forget to remove the batteries after use. I did have one of the 2 batteries that shipped with the item that was dead. It appears that the switch for the transmitter got turned on during shipping and the battery was completely flat when it arrived, but a new battery was installed and it worked as expected. This won't replace my multimeter or network cable tracing equipment, but for automotive or larger wire tracing I think it will come in quite helpful. Besides the one dead battery I've not had any issues with it and for the price I think it is well worth the money.

I am updating my rating because the seller updated the description. Even though this item was supplied to me for leaving a review, the price is awesome for what this can do. If you are tracing wires looking for a "break" in the line, this tool works great. Using the continuity test on the transmitter alone will tell you if the wire is shorted to ground. You'll have to fine the short on your own.Below is my original review. I think it will help you decide if this is what your looking for.I've been working on cars for over 40 years and professionally installing and repairing 2-way radio systems and emergency lights in vehicles for over 35 years. "Shorts" and "Opens" happen once in a while and finding them can be an issue. I was asked to try this tool and found it to be just like the fox and hound telephone tool for tracing circuits except that there is no sensitivity adjustment on this model. Even though the instruction say how to set the sensitivity, its just a volume control. Upon testing this unit I found it helpful with tracing a wire path. However, the wire must be "open" and not connected to any load. If it is grounded in anyway (like a light bulb or voltage probe), the signal is also grounded. The wire must be separated from any harness it may be in at the point of test. If it is among other wires (like a harness) the signal will be lost and not picked up by the receiver. It works great for following a single wire that is disconnected from any load but if you're looking for an "open" the load is already disconnected, so for this instance, the tool works well. As far as finding a short (which is more common than finding an "open"), the tool only tells you that the cable "is" shorted if the resistance is below 10k ohms, It doesn't help you find the short. The tool I use for finding shorts is this,https://www.amazon.com/Tool-Aid-25100-Short-Tester/dp/B000RFLR0U/ref=sr_1_15?crid=1LWSBFPF4EATY&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.dk9jzsk7AklzpW67YWuSfvJBOOJB1kvQsahd4v-RPD4njmPoXv2WqdObHYt6kxhtUjXoZSQ2IfObBT4GgJEwygFsWJMGtmbYJUrjY8y54RCeb0VpxdmtTDNrXAMisMiX8RvztVk78eZ5msziRn7IwKdwDvtj-7i3-20v4bZ97axA2wSaTSL39fR1mJ_GNIe1D_hzhdnBOqmg3WPYTUW-su0CR8oPMjUzWLzs27-lkQ8e6iPChbGcW31FQdXQf9mROl4n_VfJ1X6mFEVtINXeP-96Nr5_UjxnsFBHiG_2lzc.adG6ka4fwFjragSlkJrmQAgI--gIXwGWE3MsWy4CwFE&dib_tag=se&keywords=automotive+short+finder&qid=1732200540&sprefix=automotive+short+finde%2Caps%2C683&sr=8-15&ufe=INHOUSE_INSTALLMENTS%3AUS_IHI_3M_HARDLINES_AUTOMATEDI also tried using this tool for troubleshooting Christmas lights. I thought I could follow the tone to the bad bulb but because the wires are twisted together like a harness, it didn't work for that either. Every wire had a tone on it just from inductance from being so close to the wire under test.Back to automotive. I tried following an emergency light wire that was in the same cable with 3 other wires. All four wires would pick up the "tone" from the transmitter all the way through the cable. If I shorted any of the 4 wires to ground, the signal would disappear, even from the wire under test. So, unless you know the exact wire you want to trace and find a "break or open", this tool may lead you in the wrong direction. I can see this tool being handy in some situations but if you are a serious trouble shooter or mechanic I would use other methods of finding open's and shorts. Also, some circuits can test fine until you put a load on them due to a weak connection or corroded wire. This tool requires you to remove all loads on that circuit for this tester to work. So the fault will not be found without a load. Always start your troubleshooting with a good visual inspection

This kit would have gotten 5 stars if it actually did what it claims. If you're trying to trace a partial break, this doesn't have the sensitivity to do it. That same same partial break could throw off resistance readings causing gauges to give false readings as was our case. It has the potential to be useful, but it does have limitations.

I received the V210 about 3 weeks ago, and it has came in clutch on several occasions. I mainly use it to track broken wires in customized trailers. The wire tracing feature has been a massive time saver because I can connect the transmitter to one end of the wire, and quickly determine the path the wires take behind mounted materials in the trailers without removing things. The flexible probe is a big plus when troubleshooting recessed wires. In the end, the V210 appears to be well made and I could see this being useful outside of the automotive field.

Anyone who has ever dealt with an electrical problem in their vehicle knows how difficult it can be to track down. Sometimes the smallest thing can cause the biggest issues. This tool makes it just a little easier when tracking down broken wires and shorts. It is easy to use since the receiver is wireless and seems to do a good job. When searching for a break in a single wire buried in a larger harness it won't be exact but it will definitely help you narrow down where to start looking instead of cutting an entire harness open from one end to the other. For the price this tool is hard to beat.

It is easy to use and works well to trace wires and find opens and shorts. Nice cable length on the alligator clips. The volume was plenty loud enough for me. I love that it used 9V batteries too since AA and AAA often leak over time. The build quality is good, seems like it will last a while. Great price, great functionality - excellent value!
