I have installed this in my 22" Weber Kettle. Do note that no instructions come with the item itself, and the instructions on the product page are useful, but not highly detailed. So, here's the deal:1. I followed the directions and drilled vertically, which worked well for me. To accomplish this, I hung the kettle lid on the grill and opened the grate to where the lip was on the top. This allowed me to get a vertical angle with enough clearance to work.2. Make sure you drill the hole as close to center as possible on the lip of the vent. I got pretty close to center, and it gives me enough clearance all around and I'm not too worried about the lip splitting due to the hole being too close to any edge.3. Be patient with the step drill bit initially, as it will take a fair amount of time (and some force) to get the hole really started. On the flipside, once the first step breaks through, SLOW DOWN. The next two steps (up to the 1/3" step) just about slid right through with almost no effort on my part. You don't want to accidentally make the hole too big!4. I tightened the assembly using an appropriate sized Allen wrench (not provided) in the screw hole and a pair of pliers to keep the nut tight. That worked for me and ensured a very tight fit.I'm looking forward to adjusting my top vent without wearing a glove now!How I rate products:5 stars: Fully met all of my expectations, and provides a great value. Highly recommended.4 stars: Mostly met my expectations, with one or two reservations. Recommended.3 stars: There are some issues holding this product back. Somewhat recommended, but with reservations.2 stars: Did not meet my expectations. Not recommended.1 star: Overall disappointment. Not at all recommended.

I bought this for my Weber 22” kettle just as shown in the photos. The step bit that came with it didn’t work for me but it was easy enough to use a regular bit to install. An 8.5 or 9mm bit works fine.I have three Weber kettles and may put this on all three though the price is a touch high. It’s worth it to be able to control temps without burning fingers. Such a device should really be standard. If you do a lot of kettle cooking, this is a modification worth the addition.
