I just got a can yesterday and I love it. Full disclosure, I'm not using it for engine parts or per the manufacturer instructions. I'm making a prop replica of a raygun (long story) and wanted a very specific finish. If you're looking for that look on plastic then this couldn't be easier. It looks just like old mid century military bake on paint like was used on ships and helecopters, ect also found on old metal cameras a lot for some reason. Best method I found was to apply heavy coats waiting 5 minutes in-between (like they say on the can) but then imediatly drying them with a hair dryer until they wrinkle. It's very fast and provided excellent results. It came out super even and looks just like what I wanted. Like a professional did it. I'm not sure if it's as durable as the manufacturer stated method but it seems to be pretty tough. So if anyone is interested, yes, this works on plastic beautifully and will have many purposes beyond engine paint. I could see this working for model war ships, airplanes, guns, you name it. If you're a maker or model builder I can't recommend this highly enough. Everyone who's seen it so far has been gaga for it. Plus, once you dry it to a wrinkle it's dry, no rediculously long waits.Just thought I'd mention. Thank you VHT. I know it's not what you intended for your product but regardless you now have a repeat customer for life.

This stuff is awesome! However 2 things to consider 1. How many parts you are spraying cause this stuff doesn't seem to have a lot of paint in the can if you spray it how they recommend (which I do suggest laying it thick as the can says) 2. Def want to bake it in an oven for curing it. I baked it in the house and it def stunk it up not terrible on my opinion but you wouldn't want your kids breathing it in so make sure u can keep the windows open to air the house out. Easy to get rid of the smell. Also I found it very forgiving in laying it on thick meaning it doesn't run/drip easily from what I experienced. Def spray it thick and criss cross pattern as this will allow you to get the best texture possible. It's really sharp looking. Not sure how durable it actually is but seems fairly nice. I wouldn't go dropping it on the ground but seems legit. Color is also more of a flat blue vs shiny which I liked a lot!
Hope This Is Helpful

Great results on aluminum boxes/panels for electronic project (antique 5 tube transmitter.)After careful cleaning, I used the VHT light grey primer, sprayed on uniformly about 18 hours prior to black wrinkle.Wrinkle was put on in one application, one heavy coat on mostly horizontal surfaces. The heavy coat resulted in some sags on vertical surfaces. Only 70 degrees Fahrenheit today, so I dried the coat with a hair dryer for about 20 minutes until initial wrinkles were seen over all surfaces, then baked it for about 2 hours at 200 degrees.VERY pleased with quick and about 95% uniform results my first time out. The sags formed creases of wrinkle, but not important or very visible in this project. This was not an application to be submitted to heat, but it seems very rugged. Tips to self: apply more slowly, and take more care to get even coating over all surface for 100% uniformity of wrinkles.

Good product just not the easiest to use correctly. I don’t mean the mechanics of spraying the paint. I have been painting cars, boats, motorcycles just anything with wheels pretty much in the last 35 years or so; I have done a lot of spray bombing. In order to get good results be very picky in your prep and when painting have PATIENCE! Because this a crinkle finish there are multiple steps in the painting process to make it turn out nice. If possible do a test piece first. If used correctly this stuff is great. Currently, both exhaust pipes, electric starter and my alternator on my ‘82 Sportster are painted with these and holding up and looking fine!

Works well but like with any paint, prep prep prep...Used a heat gun to gently bring out the wrinkles...
