I have the Meinl oversize brushes & I love them. but, the Vic Furth Bru-let's (brush + mallot) give you so much more sound out of the surface of your Cajon. They also give you more volume control. I play in a worship team. So, it's important to ease into some songs & equally important to drive the chorus when the choir is strong in the mix. I can also use them on a drum kit when the utility requires it.

As a professional cajonist playing well over 100 gigs per year, I have literally worn holes through the faces of several cajons using steel wire brushes. I needed an alternative. I opted for the Vic Firth Bru-llet brushes. Out of the box, I was first impressed by the how sturdy they felt in my hands, yet not heavy. I anticipate these will last. Putting them on the wood, I was only a little disappointed with the lack of definition in the brush sweeps, but as I continued to play, found that just a slight adjustment from my normal technique improved the sound. I tend to think that if the brushes were just a little longer (maybe an inch or so), this issue might disappear altogether. The handle ends are quite beefy, much more to hold on to than your typical retractable style brushes. This takes a little getting use to, but after gigging with them, I found myself appreciative of this. The mallet feature of these brushes was totally new for me. I discovered that with very little adjustment to my grip, I could easily go back and forth between brushy sweeps to full on bass thumps, as well as combinations of sweeps and thumps! Very cool, indeed! My only nit-pick is the loud red color of the nylon brushes. My entire kit and gear are all color coordinated blue on black (yes, even my LP Aspire Blue Burst Streak), so... I would love to shed the bright red bristles on these brushes for a cool cobalt blue. I'd rate 5 stars if I had colors to choose from.Overall, a very good concept and what, so far, appears to be a very sturdy and functional pair of brush/mallets.I'd rate 5 stars if I had colors to choose from.

I’ve been using the long black Cajon brushes and these feel better in your hands, more responsive, and they make a better sound I think. The bass mallet is more distinct on your lower end, and the brushes make a nicer snare sound though you have to be careful on snare work that you’re getting a good contact on your upper end. If you keep your right hand down for most of your bass work and your left hand up for snare it’s perfect; I just use the mallet in my right hand and I use my hand for a nicer snare slap on the left. Fair price I think.

Thought the ball was a novel idea. Didn't like the sound on a cajon. Brushes have a very plastic sounds. Returned.
