My starter was old so I figured I should go thru everything. Most auto stores sell individual components but I wanted a complete re-build kit. This is it!Has all the bushings, starter gear, brushes, and washers. Had a few extra washers for other starter than mine, so don't fret if you see some extra pieces. Was nice quality components. Starter works better than I have ever seen it work (like new). When replacing the brushes, the old brushes and connecting wires are cut of at the attachemtn lug. Two of the new brushes are complete with a copper clip which muust be soldered on to the lug where the old brushes were cut off. WARNING - This takes a large soldering iron. I used a Benz-O-matic torch with soldering tip and tin foil to protect the starter from any excessive heat.

This fits the old style Ford starter that has a steel sheet metal band around the rear that covers the brushes and retains the engagement lever cover. There is a very similar Ford starter that I don't believe is compatible, it doesn't have the band at the rear as the body doesn't have the access windows for the brushes and the lever cover is held on by a separate screw rather than the band. Both styles have the starter solenoid on the fender near the battery I say styles because there are many different part numbers/versions that vary in mounting provisions such as pinion stick-out, number & location of Mount bolts etc, but have the same internals.

Will save you some cash to rebuild yourself. BUT. You need a very large hot soldering iron to solder in new brushes. Or have it done at a shop. Which will eat up most of your savings. The kit is as advertised and quality. It has all the parts. But, it's probably better for everyone but the best equipped shade tree mechanic to just have it rebuilt at a shop or get a parts store replacement starter.

These kits are awesome. It’s awesome that they are still available and quite honestly, represent the ultimate in recycling. More and more you are seeing “brand new” starters and alternators on the market. At first glance these may seem like an exceptional bargain. A brand new item for close to the same price as rebuilt and no “core” to return or deal with. In my experience there is a reason for the low prices of these new units. Buying a rebuilt has many of the same advantages as these kits but the kit is a fraction of the price of a good rebuild. Also, with some rebuilds you don’t really know what you are getting. That said, these kits will require more than just general knowledge to install. The kit comes with good instructions though and if you have the ability and are willing to take your time to do the job properly you will be rewarded with a working product for far less than buying one already rebuilt.I have used these kits successfully on several alternators and starters now. I highly recommended them but only to those who have the time and ability.
