As a long time mechanic I knew it was time to help out my old alternator on my 1986 Chevy when it would only put out 11 volts. Replacements are running $65-100 now-a-days so I went with this rebuild kit for just under $14. Broke it down, cleaned it up and put her back together in about 45 minutes. Fired it up and immediately she started putting out 14 volts. It worked like a champ and saved me plenty of bucks.

The alternator on my tractor stopped charging the battery and after checking out the wiring I ordered this rebuild kit. It was easy to install and the instructions were pretty good. I found that my alternator was full of dirt and dust and that is probably what caused it to fail in the first place so I got all of that cleaned out and I plan to use compressed air to blow it out regularly now to try to keep it from building up in there again. I could not easily get the bearing out but it did not look like it was bad so I did not try too hard and just left the old one in there. I was very happy to find that this inexpensive rebuild kit solved my problem instead of having to buy an expensive alternator.

Parts drop right in. No rear bearing. Several brushes to choose from. In my case, I know my old rectifier trio was bad but I bought the whole kit thinking I would replace everything while I had it apart. Unfortunately I still had no output with the new parts. I must have taken it apart and put it together 5 times before I just put the old regulator back in with the new rectifier and then it worked. So it was still worth the price to get the rectifier and front bearing (compared to a new alternator) but I wouldn't buy this kit again. My suggestion is to test everything and only buy what you need.
