It is a good depth and size. It is quite thick and has a heavy bottom which conducts heat evenly, and can be used on the stove top. The finish is polished. I used it to roast a whole fish in the oven, and it cooked it perfectly. It will be useful for roasting, baking, and for au gratin dishes. I bought this to replace a Le Creuset stoneware au gratin dish which cracked in the oven while baking. I am very pleased with this beautiful, sturdy, stainless steel pan. I was worried about buying something which had no user reviews, but am now glad I bought it.

Perfect size for center burner on 5 burner range. It is elongated and does not interfere with other pots on stove. Heavy and makes beautiful presentation.
