I bought this to connect a Samsung smart TV having only a fiber optic audio output to an old stereo receiver which has only analog RCA jacks.I had purchased a similar decoder for my dad a few years ago through Amazon so he could connect the base for some wireless headphones to his TV. He still uses it today and it has worked well, so I considered purchasing another one based on our experience, but I didn't like the price. For that kind of money I was I was seriously considering spending a bit more and getting an inexpensive AV receiver with a fiber optic input. I then ran across this Wiistar decoder for less than 1/2 the price and figured it was worth a try.I've only tried the fiber optic digital input and the RCA jacks. The audio sounded very good. There is a slight delay, which you can notice if you have both the TV speakers and Stereo system on. The simple solution was to just turn the TV speaker volume all the way down. Even with the delay, the audio still seemed to be synchronized with the speakers lips on the screen. The construction of the Wiistar decoder, with the exception of there being no micro-USB port to power it from a TV USB port, is very similar to the decoder I purchased for my father. My only minor complaint is the cord from the AC adapter is short (~ 3') and I had to use an extension cord to reach the power strip. It really should come with a 6' cord, especially given there is not an option to power it directly from a TV USB port available on other decoders.I'm very happy with this Wiistar decoder, especially for the price.

I bought this as an adapter for an older analog device (Widex's TV-Dex) that transmits sound from the TV to my hearing aids. The device has stereo-type right/left cables that plugged into my old TV but not my new one. This adapter came with clear instructions, was easy to set up and works great. (I also appreciated the fact that it included an outlet plug to attach to the USB power wire, which some other similar products do not.)

This worked exactly as described. I have a Samsung TV with only one optical audio output, which I was already using for a surround sound system. By using an inexpensive optical splitter (Yeworth 1 to 2), I am now sending the audio to both the surround sound system and this decoder. The decoder passes it on to my stereo receiver with standard RCA cables. This lets me stream Amazon Music from the TV to the receiver and from there to stereo speakers in other rooms. I can play the music on the surround sound system, in one or both of the other rooms or everywhere at once. Anything with surround sound is still true 5.1 and the music sounds great everywhere. Setting it up was as simple as plugging in the cords. All in all, this was an excellent solution at a very reasonable price.

This unit gets the job done if you are trying to convert optical or coax Dolby DTS 5.1 digital signal to 2 channel stereo analog output. (Most other units only convert PCM, and therefore do not support DTS 5.1 signals. Some devices let you select the output format, but my LG TV for example only outputs DTS 5.1 from optical.) As others noted, the red RCA jack is labeled "left", and the white one labelled as "right". (Normally, white is left and red is right.) It could be hard to determine from broadcast TV, but if you have a streaming source, you could use a YouTube test video to determine which is which. Some comments have raised the issue of reliability, claiming the unit has a high rate of failure. Just keep in mind that the unit itself may not be failing. It could be the power supply. Try a new or different power supply before blaming the unit. Just because the red light is on does not mean the unit is getting the right amount of power. These types of devices typically use a standard 5 volt, 1 amp power supply. But the power supply units are cheaply made and low quality, and over time, they do not deliver enough current to power the device. This causes intermittent, and eventually, complete failure of the device. (Mine would power up and the bright red light came on, but the audio outputs just made a low level buzzing sound.) I replaced mine after 6 years of use, only to discover that the old one worked perfectly fine with a new power supply. I am giving it 4 stars because the analog audio output is not great quality, and also there does seem to be some potential for audio delay issues depending on the source. I ultimately went with the PROZOR brand 5.1 to stereo adapter. It is about the same price on here, and seems to be much better quality without any of the downside issues reported with this unit.

I bought this to use to feed a headphone amp. The reason I didn't get a more traditional DAC was that I wanted the AC3 conversion that this provides. At first it seemed to work well, so I gave it a positive review. But then I started noticing distortion through my headphones. I set up the amp and the headphones at a different location where I was able to get an analog feed off my universal DVD player. Everything sounded great. Then I hooked up the Wiistar into the audio chain testing it with both the coax and optical digital connections. It was distorting badly through both connections. Definitely not recommended.
