After seeing several people comment on the wooden muddlers about the veneer or stain chipping off into drinks, I was relieved to find this guy. And it works great. I don't have a dishwasher, so I don't know how well it holds up there, but so far it's fabulous being hand-washed. It is sturdy construction, feels good and moderately heavy in your hand, and I actually kinda like the fact that I can use either end. One end has the pattern on it so you can really crush things with a good grip, but the other end, which is rounded, I've found to work better for some things. I was making mojitos the other night and when it's just mint and sugar in the bottom of the glass, the patterned end can't get as good of a grip on the leaves, so we turned it over and it worked perfectly really smushing the whole leaf into the sugar. Then, when (on our second one!) we decided to muddle in some cucumber, the patterned side really held a good grip on the cucumber slices while we were trying to crush them. It was perfect! Two in one!

It's a solid muddler at a very low price, with just the right weight and length, plus a quality muddling surface at the bottom. I think polycarb is the way to go with this - almost all the wooden muddlers have laquer that degrades or chips over time (potentially getting into drinks) and many of the metal or partially metal ones are multiple parts with seams that can get gunk in them and end up being unsanitary. The best thing would probably be a solid piece of stainless steel, but you'd pay an arm and a leg for that compared to these polycarb ones. This was perfect for my needs.

I was originally hoping to find a really nice steel or aluminum muddler, but wasn't able to find something that seemed to be well designed — they'd look gorgeous, but reviews would frequently mention difficulty cleaning them or a lack of longevity. That's when I decided I'd just get something that would get the job done inexpensively, and found this muddler. I don't think I'll be looking at muddlers again for a long while.Several other reviews here mention the packaging on this item to be particularly heinous, and I'm delighted to report that it has been improved substantially if my shipment is any indication. There was an adequate and reasonable amount of plastic (not cling/saran style) wrapped around the muddler that was removed easily, and the sticker attached directly to the muddler was using a very amiable adhesive that didn't leave any detectable residue. The weight of the muddler is fantastic, despite concerns that it would be too lightweight. The end used for muddling is quite sharp and won't be letting cherries or other fruit slip around much, but it isn't my favorite for more delicate ingredients like mint sprigs. In terms of appearance, the color isn't consistent, nor is the glossiness. While this won't influence your cocktail, it isn't something you want to leave out with any nicer cocktail accessories.

We wanted a smaller, packable muddler that we could take on vacations with us to make Mojitos specifically. This one is perfect. It's all plastic, so no airline/security issues. It's lightweight, but sturdy and dishwasher safe! The muddling end is sharp, even though it's plastic - so handle with care! We used it everyday while on our latest tropical vacation and it was perfect. This is now one of our must-have travel items!

I love some Mojitos. These units are very hard, very durable, dishwasher safe. Easy to clean. They work really well to crush the mint leaves, it works well on the fruit as well, if you want just one units. The Winco Polypropylene Triangular Head Muddler version of this product works really well on the fruit. We got both. Because the units are so easy to clean, who cares if you use the perfect tool for the item your trying to crush..I cant imagine why we would ever need buy another muddler. Very durable products.

I regret so badly the purchase of this muddler. I didn't want one of the varnished wood muddlers, because I don't like Old-Fashioned with a hint of lacquer. But this one is an example of bad engineering and design. The 'netted head' is just glued onto the top. But moreover, the 'netted' feature does not allow the muddler to make contact with the bottom of the glass. As such, you can't muddle whatever is in the bottom of the glass. I know everyone is riding this mojito wave, but you couldn't make a proper mojito, mint julep, old-fashioned, or anything else with this thing. The holding end of this thing is actually perfect for the job, but then you grind the 'netted head' into your palm.Bad design, bad product.

Does the job, but rather cheap quality and small. It is probably OK for mint leaves, but is not big enough for limes, etc.

A muddler is one of your basic bartending tools. This one is cheap, practical, and works great. A solid handle with sharp points at the end ensures your drink will be well-muddled. For the price, you can't beat it. Use a mid-level alcohol, a quality mixer, and a fresh herb/citrus, and use this muddler and you have a drink that you can't find any better at a bar.
