I wanted to monitor temperature on some pipes in my boiler system. These looked like a simple, quickly attached means of doing so. When attached to various pipes of various diameters, it never read above 100 degrees F while the system is at 170 degrees. In frustration I sat one face up in just enough boiling water to touch the brass sensor. It rose to 140 degrees, not 212 degrees, the boiling point of water. I emailed the manufacturer and am contacting Amazon. I have to question if these units ever saw any type of calibration or quality testing.

The temperature is accurate, the scale is fairly easy to read but would like the scale to have more numbers marked on the face. I know that is being very picky. The one thing that bothered me was the spring that holds it on to the assumed pipe temperature you are monitoring. As I pulled the spring around the pipe, it slipped out of the needle nose pliers and disappeared. I know I can get a spring from the Hardware store but I just used some nylon zip ties to hold it in place. The pipe temperature never goes above 130F so it should be good. If you don't have any zip ties around, get some, they are very handy to have around.

With Prime policy change for no refunds, not sure if it is worth returning.I was going to love this product but unfortunately it is not usable across its intended range.Besides the defect, I do like the large face and easy to read dial. If it were working, the one main feature I would like is a better attachment mechanism. The spring is hard to use and not long enough to fit around some of the pipes I would like to measure. It fits around 1in diameter pipe but any larger it struggles.

we need to realize outside pipe temp will not b same as inside these are a good tool for comparsion

I'm using this thermometer on 1/2 in. Copper line, I had to modify the mount slightly but when attached securely to the line it works great and pretty accurate, easy to read, and for the price I consider it a good buy

When someone else who bought this item,their impression was to save your money,,I should of listened. I know the water coming in from outdoor unit was 180 degrees,,the thermometer read 100 degrees,,3 feet inside the wall. i never expected it to be dead on,,but this is terrible. Save your money.
