We got my older son who is a huge gamer, the popular Backbone mobile gaming controller for Christmas so he can play certain games better on his iPhone 15. However, his initial excitement quickly gave way to disappointment for several reasons. First, he found the Backbone controller simply too small, especially the grips and trigger buttons. It was also a pain to get in and out of the controller because you have to connect the Backbone using the USB-C port on the phone. His thick case made it even more difficult to do. Finally, my son told me that there were certain moves he couldn’t do in Roblox, which he plays all the time, with the Backbone controller. For those reasons, I returned the Backbone and was on the hunt for a better mobile controller for my boy. Thankfully, I didn’t have to wait long before this came around. While I couldn’t find any information on this particular controller, it appeared more robust and ergonomic than the Backbone and also used Bluetooth to connect versus a physical port. So, I decided to take a chance on it.Good decision because this mobile controller is exactly what we hoped the Backbone would be. It feels well-constructed with good fit and finish. The grips are much bigger and feel similar to a full-sized console controller. The buttons and analog sticks are also well-sized with good placement. And while it’s noticeably bigger than the Backbone, it’s not big per se and still easily portable. It’s also not too heavy with good balance, which should help with longer playing sessions. The Bluetooth connection works well. My son’s iPhone found the device right away and connected with no issues. Everything responds quickly with no lag that we could detect. And because it’s not physically connected, the phone is far easier to place in the controller and detach from it with no fear that you might damage the USB-C.My son has played several games using this controller and he hasn’t run into any incompatibility issues so far, which is great. We’ve also connected it to Xbox Remote Play, and it’s worked flawlessly with the Mode button doubling as the Xbox/Home button. We haven’t tried the turbo or memory functions since my son doesn’t really care about those features. The RGB lights look good and can mostly be disabled if you don’t care for them. The only lights that I don’t know how to turn off are the RGB and Mode buttons. This doesn’t seem to bother my boy since he plays with all the LED lights on but could be annoying for those who’d prefer to play with no lights at all. Just FYI.Overall, we’re very happy with this mobile controller. If you’re looking for one that feels great in the hand and works as well as it feels, I think you’ll be happy with this one too.

The $50 space for these controllers is heating up, and this is honestly a really competent controller at this price point. The Joysticks are great, XYAB buttons and the triggers are perfect. If I had to nitpick, the D pad is a bit mushy and the shoulder buttons are a bit clicky for my taste, but still totally fine and neither bother me in actual gameplay. The fit and finish is excellent for the price point, but premium materials are not to be expected; certainly the face plastic does feel a bit more toy like and less appliance grade, although the rubber bits in the middle feel very premium and the spring mechanism feels solid as well. The back is textured and reminds of an xbox controller, albeit a little less premium feeling. Suffice it to say, they put their money where it mattered and cut costs where appropriate; I'd have done it the same way. Worth noting, if you're the kind of person that does long game sessions and have hand sweat, the smooth, cheaper face plastic on this might be a problem down the line, that grip is very smooth.I would have loved to be able to use it hard wired as well as bluetooth, with charging pass through like the gamesir g8, but at this price point that would be surprising to see without some sort of compromise somewhere else. One thing I can fault this for is pretty bare bones user manual. Also as best as I can tell, there is no battery life indicator; it simply blinks read when its low. I played for a couple hours and it never went low, but I'm the kind of person that always plugs things in when not in use so who knows if I will ever test the true battery life. I'll forgive the manual being a bit light because this thing was a breeze to set up on my iphone, and retroarch immediately picked it up as an xbox style controller and no further setup was necessary. I would like to see the battery gauge somehow though, but not bad enough to dock a star.I don't love RGB so that function is not something I really cared to play with, but if you're looking for a gift for someone whos into that, this would be perfect. If you want the tl;dr, this thing is worth it at $50. If you have $80 to spend, maybe get the gamesir g8 and get passthrough charging, but if you just want a solid controller without breaking the bank, this is the one to get.

This is a nice controller. Fits my Galaxy S24 Ultra with case perfectly (seriously, it's seamless), and it connects well and functions exactly like it should. It's VERY high quality. I've connected it both to my phone and my PC, and it's worked really well (extra props that it just shows up like a normal Xbox controller!). The only flaw, and this one might be a dealbreaker for you (it's not for me) is that the right analog stick is VERY close to the A/B/X/Y buttons. But if you can get over that, I'd say this is a big winner in my book. Also, how fun are those LEDs? The splotchy variety isn't just colored plastic, it's LED! Super fun.
