Yes - Period. Lightweight, stiff/rigid, strong, inexpensive, efficient mechanism. I paid $15.00 for the viola 15 1/2''-16 1/3''. There is a reason you see this on every single rental instrument (sometimes cheap copies) - because they are huge value for the price. But, if you want the next increment better similar solution, be prepared to add a couple of zeros to the price. Go to the nearest large metropolitan Symphony and you will also see tailpieces with built in fine tuners - though probably not Wittners. Beware of the cheap copies on eBay - the genuine Wittner product is inexpensive AND high quality. Our family owns our instrument (violas and cellos), and we use these Wittner tailpieces.For the price, these are invaluable. If you are looking for a tailpiece, with built-in fine tuners, in this price range, do not settle for anything other that Wittner.

I just began using these fine tune tail pieces recently, and find them so much better, than the individual fine tuners that you mount on the tail piece. The machines work flawlessly, and make tuning a breeze!I've also installed some Wittner planetary drive pegs. . . . but for the price difference, and ease of setting up, these are the best!!

Beautifully made using latest high-tech materials make this tailpiece lighter than any other I have tried. This provided a small but noticable improvement in the voice of my instrument. Also it was easy to get the afterlenght just right with this part so I am pleased in all respects. Well worth the price. The only thing that could make it better and kept me from giving five stars is a minor redesign allowing a bar for the strings to rest on between the adjusters and the nut would keep the string lengths uniform and prevent minor voice changes as the fine tuners move through their range.Still, very much worth the price and light, attractive, and good sounding. I had the Wittner tuner pegs on another Viola, and they work marvelously with a heavier price tag. So on a student value practice viola, I considered using this tail piece. With both the tail gut and tail piece, the installation was seamless to provide easier, accurate, and joyful tuning experience to this viola with only the wooden pegs. If you don't have the Whitner tuner pegs, you won't go wrong getting the tail piece, as it is a certain necessity for accurate tuning a stringed instrument. The parts are engineered smoothly with quality stiffness to transfer a wonderful tone. It gives moving the last +/- 25 cents on your perfect tone a breeze.

I always use Wittner tailpieces on all the string instruments I make, violins, violas and cellos. They're lightweight with light built-in fine tuners, matches the ebony fittings (pegs, fingerboard) and is cheap! And works well! Having 4 fine tuners makes it so easy to tune the instrument

What is there to review? It a tailpiece by Wittner. All parts were there when I received it. Installed and works fine.

The tailpiece we received was quite a bit smaller than the one we were replacing on my daughter's 15" viola. This one was stamped "4/4 violin" on the back. Not sure if that's normal, or we just received the wrong item. Either way, during the installation, I just lengthened the tailgut a bit to make up the difference in length from the tailpiece that was removed. It works fine! The fine tuners are smooth (which was the reason we replaced the viola's original equipment). The chin rest hides the short end of the tailpiece, so it's no big deal. Obviously not a Stradivarius, but it works for practice.

I had the hypothesis that a violin or viola would sound better if the tailpiece were lighter and further from the bridge. The Wittner 15 - 15.5 inch size tailpiece was considered to be the ideal to test this. (My viola is 15 7/8, but came with a longer tailpiece). It is my opinion that both my violin and viola improved with such smaller-sized tailpieces. A bit brighter sound, better projection, better tone; this allowed me to lower the tuning a half step, for more richness / overtones. I recommend this tailpiece, and suggest that at such a low price, consider using it on your full sized instrument. Note: This idea is all the more important when considering that violas often lack brilliance; that is why folks go to a violin.

La mia viola di 39 cm, di fabbrica non di liuteria, aveva una cordiera di dimensioni standard, per cui terminando troppo vicino al ponticello non era possibile montare i tiracantini. Questa cordiera e` di dimensioni perfette ed ha anche i tiracantini integrati. In questo modo le corde appoggiano in modo ottimale al ponticello. Unico neo e` il materiale sintetico, ma a questo prezzo e` impensabile trovare altro. Il suono della mia viola e` migliorato considerevolmente.

There are lots of cheaper alternatives that look similar, but Wittner is an established brand with a good reputation why risk an unbranded one. Ideal for younger musicians who sometimes struggle to tune using the pegs (and can end up damaging the instrument in the process) This is a good product. A lot of purists will say the adjusters can compromise the sound, but the ease of getting the instrument in tune far outweigh this downside especially for beginners and improvers. Takes a bit of time to fit but relatively simple DIY task. Just Fit and tune the strings from thick to thin keep the bridge in the right place and perpendicular
