This template made it very simple. The only weird part is that the cutout for the rocker is only half. You have to carefully duplicate it to make a full rocker. Other than that it was easy to follow. I used the paper to make templates out of 1/4†MDF to fine tune the shapes. Very helpful for a beginner.

Plans are easy to follow. Also watched a you tube video which also helped.

The plans were ok, nice to have full size patterns. The written directions were somewhat vague, especially when it came to locating the rocker cross rails. I followed the instructions exactly, using the location reference marks for the legs to the body, when I got to the assembly of the horse to the rockers, the legs were 3/4" off front to back. The directions said to pre drill the holes for the cross rails, my advice is to only pre drill the front cross rail, attach it then drill the rear holes. I ended up having to plug the wrong holes, disappointed with the results. I am a professional wood worker of 45 years.

This is a fantastic horse. The plans are very good, but have a couple of minor mistakes, nothing that you can't figure out. The placement of the horse on the base can be a problem if the legs are not exactly aligned per the instructions. It's not a bad idea to hold off on the pre-drilling of the supports. If I had to do it again, I would clamp the supports, rockers, and horse all in place, supporting the horse as needed and then drill. A well equipped wood shop is a strong recommendation - a band saw, router, table saw, drill press, orbital sander, a couple sizes of drum sanders for the drill press, and a bunch of clamps. Plan on 30 - 40 hours.

I've been buying books lately looking for creative ideas and plans. I didn't fully read the description lol. My surprise when I opened up full size plans! I can't wait to get started. A special one for the first grandbaby then a few to sell.

The plans were great, but I was planning to build this for my 3-4 yr old granddaughters, but they are already too big for this horse. Will have to find something else.

While I like the design very much, the actual product was something else. After attempting to follow the directions, I learned that it required many tools that I didn't have and I had to improvise. in addition there were many inaccurate or inconsistent directions. The wood called for is various hardwoods including maple and cherry which was very costly. However, with all the issues, I enjoyed building the rocking horse and would do it again.
