Regardless of climate conditions I take my dog for a walk every day. I tried multiple different types of gloves but my hands were sometimes so cold that when I returned I had trouble using my key to open my door. I decided to try mittens instead and I am very pleased with the outcome. My hands stay nice and warm.I do have to remove one mitten when picking up after my dog but the wool retains my body heat so when I put it back on it is nice and warm. These mittens cost more but they are worth it.In my old age I have learned to go for the quality product even if it is more expensive; it saves me money in the long run.

I’ve had these for several winters now and they’ve held up well when I’m out shoveling the beastly Northeastern snow dumps we get. I don’t use them alone, they go inside a pair of lined leather mittens, and between these layers I’ll slip one of those things that stay hot for hours (HotHands, something like that). Then my little Raynaud fingers have a fighting chance.A great pair of mittens.

These are high quality mittens! I went up a size, because I like mine with room for a thin liner glove (to keep my fingers from freezing metal when I need to manipulate locked gates)--and will add the proper waterproof/wind blocking over mitt to them to finish the system. The seller was awesome and even listed the lovely red color for me. These will work great for northern Idaho winters. Love how they have the proper extended wrist covering length--your wrists are where you lose a lot of heat, smart designing here!I recommend getting these mitts--and please be sure and pick up over mitts for them, some people here just can't seem to figure out that wool means insulation not wind blocking or waterproof.

I have to wear a compression glove on one of my hands which causes my hand temperature to drop, which is a dangerous problem in the wintertime. These mittens absolutely keep my hand warm though I agree with other reviewers that the length up the wrist is entirely and unnecessarily too long. Winter coats are now made with long cuffs that grip the wrists, and the double layer of the mitten cuff and the coat cuff can be quite uncomfortable for circulation to the hands as well as just constricting. Aside from that, these mittens are AWESOME.BUT the thumb on my special hand, which I keep in my pocket nearly all of the time when I'm out in cold weather, came unraveled on this pair and the orange pair. It's a mystery why, but the WONDERFUL PEOPLE AT DACHSTEIN replaced my mittens immediately.

Once I got the size corrected I found the mittens to be exactly what I wanted: quality wool, well constructed, room inside for my fingers, and a handwarmer packet when I choose . I bought them after the season and haven't had a chance to test them under really trying conditions but am confident they will do their duty.A slight caution. I ordered a 7 for a man's small hands according to the measuring instructions.. They turned out to be very narrow, almost as if they were made for a woman. I call Sweater Chalet, talked to Rick. We both got out our rulers and resolved that I should have a size 8. I returned the 7s and ordered 8s to my complete satisfaction. It turned out my short hands were to wide for the narrow 7, and I can't imagine any man's hands fitting into a 7, the length of the fingers notwithstanding. Super guy, Rick.
