worm compost bin kit

Just add 1/4 lb or 250 red wiggler worms (sold separately) and you'll be able to start vermicomposting and harvesting your own Worm Castings and Worm Tea.

Worm Tea is a highly potent, organic fertilizer solution that can be sprayed directly on plants or at the roots to help your plants grow healthy and strong. The worms live and compost your food scraps in the top yellow bucket and the bottom green bucket is used to capture excess liquids during the composting phase and also to brew Worm Tea (instruction card & recipe included). The easy-pour spigot allows you to pour your brewed Worm Tea directly into your sprayer for no-mess application as a plant foliar spray. Watch your plants burst to life! They love the Worm Tea.

worm bin

Self-draining Design

The yellow composting chamber is self-draining to make sure your vermicompost bin doesn't accumulate too much moisture which can lead to a stagnate bin or foul odors in other systems.

Our self-draining design makes sure the worms have just the right amount of moisture to stay active and healthy without the risk of your bin becoming too wet and turning anaerobic. Just slide the yellow bucket out and empty the green bucket of any excess run-off called leachate.

outdoor worm bin

For Indoor or Outdoor Use

Snug-fit lid and vent holes for aeration ensures that your worm friends won't escape and that other critters or pests won't get in!

Worms thrive best in temperatures between 60-80°F (15-26°C) but the easy carry handles allow you to transport when temperatures change.

This is good for starting but you'll probably want to go to a larger bin soon. I went to two 10-gallon bins (search "Rubbermaid Roughneck Tote 10 Gal - 6 Pack |Made in the USA| Black & Grey, Rugged Plastic Stackable Storage Tote with Lid and Handles" in Amazon.

I received this and thought it was going to be pretty useful. The directions are very vague and very brief. You get a brick of dirt that you need to soak for "hours". It says to fill the bucket half full with water. If you use too much water, you have to drain the soil. I'd rather add water than fix a flood, so I filled it about 1/4 with water. That was the right amount. After you set it up, you're on your own. I would just use a tub in the future. I give three stars because it is functional. But you have to figure it out for yourself.

Essentially I paid almost $80 for a plastic bucket with some holes. I know this is a small business with good intentions BUT- the two tiers are only necessary if you are going to make compost tea. There are easier ways to do this. The unfortunate part is because of the way the buckets are stacked and the length of the handles, lifting by the handle pulls the top bucket out of the bottom one. Basically there is no way to move this without having to pick up with both hands. Defeats the purpose of 2 handles.-The bucket is very small. A regular DYI store bucket would be a lot more spacious, with usable handle, and a lid that doesn't need to be pried off. I thought the lid was kind of tight when I first unpacked this. Just went to check on the worms after the first feeding and cut my fingers trying to pull the lid off. As a result, I just covered them back up with damp paper and loosely placed the lid back. Will have to figure out a better solution tomorrow.-The side vents don't line up with the openings, so there are a ton of gaps around the vents which may lead to worms escaping. I'll have to tape around or something.-When opening the kit, everything was covered in perlite dust. Completely avoidable. Both perlite and coco coir just loosely placed into the brown bags so they got a chance to bounce around during shipping. The brown bags are super thin and only loosely taped so it allowed for perlite dust to escape and coat everything from papers to entire inside of the bucket including the lid. I had to take everything outside and rinse it off. Not a fun start to unpacking and setting up. A simple solution would have been to wrap perlite tighter and secure it better. It's free, doesn't require additional packaging.-For whatever reason, coco coir did not soften even after 8 hours submerged in water. I had to pry the chunks off and grind it with my hands to the point of getting blisters. I work with coco coir often when gardening and never had this problem. As I'm writing this I decided that it would make more sense to repurpose the bottom bucket for something in the garden, recycle the top one, and get a basic container for $10 to make a new home for my wigglers. There are just too many drawbacks with this product. I just don't love it and I hardly ever write a bad review here. I'm glad that this product worked out for most other buyers.
