I selected this lighter because it had good reviews as well as looking cool. Unfortunately, the striker broke on the first attempted use. It broke right at the wick,so the damage would not clearly show. It's inevitable that not every one produced will be perfect.

I really like this permanent match solution for pipe smoking. You get the convenience of having a fueled lighter with the ability to direct the flame exactly where you want in the pipe's chamber. The construction is good and the skull is really cool. It's a big conversation piece. I'm pretty sure I convinced at least a half-dozen friends to buy one. For $10, how can you go wrong? The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the steel strike rod was completely worn down after about four months of use. Not sure how many strikes, but it was nowhere near 1,000, never mind the claimed 10,000. For $6 I bought a repair kit that had three strike rods, three wicks, O-rings and a couple strike flints. I replaced the rod with a couple dabs of crazy glue and I'm off to the races again.

First, I’m a fan of quirky lighters, especially permanent lighters. This is a cool lighter, but you will have to maintain it. It will require more refills since it is so small. Also, be prepared for maintaining the wick. It won’t light automatically. And be careful about wiping down the lighter fluid when you fill it. I set myself on fire. Even so, it is a fun lighter.

I like this item very much. For camping or as a match for lighting boilers and pilot lights for my trade, this is a handy tool to have. Fill with fluid, close it up and hang it on your tool bag or backpack and you’ll have fire whenever you need. Large flame initially, I’m sure as the wick burns down the flame will drop as well but if you use as directed it should last a very long time before the wick needs replacing.Striker will take a minute or two to work in and start throwing sparks as you find your angle but once you find the right speed and angle you’ll get consistent results.Highly recommend. Stylish item that keeps you ready to start a fire wherever you may need it!!

Only worked properly for a couple strikes The fuel seems to run out really quick. I know i am filling it wayore than it should be...literally every 4-5 strikes. The little fibres at the tip of the match burn away within the first 10 to 20 strikes. extremely dissapointed with this purchase
