I had no prior experience with clarinets and I was having quite a bit of difficulty playing a ~$70 Mendini clarinet. The instrument felt correct, just the air wouldn't flow smoothly. Until, I have tried the Vandoren traditional 2 reeds and this Yamaha 5C mouthpiece.It immediately made a huge difference compared to the one included with the Mendini. So many of the whistles have gone for good :)The only issue I have with this is that it is very hard to insert into the barrel (yes, I'm applying the wax as instructed). And it is the plastic part below the cork that is too tight. Maybe the barrel is too small. I can live with that.

I bought this for my daughter, as her school had only provided the clarinet without the mouthpiece. I got this plus the ligature and some soft reeds, and also I got some thick pads. It's worked well for her these past few weeks, so we will recommend it.
