Based on the famous Rottenburgh body design, this recorder has an arched windway to produce a slight resistance that gives you better breath control and allows you to play with more expression.

I own a Yamaha Alto recorder. The alto recorder proved to be of such high quality and sound that I decided to purchase a Yamaha soprano recorder. It is a beautiful little recorder that plays easily with wonderful sound. Playing these high quality plastic recorders saves wear & tear on my much older wooden recorders. I was skeptical about a plastic recorder being able to have as good of sound as the wooden ones. They have proven themselves to be every bit as good. The price is very reasonable, too. I highly recommend these recorders.

For a modicum price, you get an in-tune chromatic instrument that you can produce real music with, a recorder that performs better costs currently ten times as much. It's truly a display of technical prowess from Yamaha (and its competitor in this space, Aulos) to offer the world such a gift.I have since made the jump to recorders with better qualities, but I will forever be grateful to Yamaha for making the YRS-302b recorder. Now, specifics, this thing is in tune, honestly, buy something cheaper or a low-end wooden recorder, and the difference is night and day. The articulation can be slightly tricky, the lower notes are more sensitive to pressure than more expensive recorders, so switching up and down requires a fair bit of attention, but it's well within the range of what's reasonable. To learn, this instrument won't really limit you. Really, get it, get it now.

I purchased this for my daughter, 9 yrs old, who had a recorder, but lost it. I purchased this because of the good reviews and I was very pleased with the quality and sound. My daughter played a few notes, and right away, we both notice the difference, clearer and smoother sound. The recorder she lost couldn't have been more than $5. This is a great recorder for the price! I highly recommend it - comes with a nice zipper pouch, cleaning rod, notes fingering sheet. No big deal, but the color of the recorder in the photo looked black, but in reality, it's a very very dark brown, sort of a brownish/black. And the white part is an ivory color. Still attractive.

You can expect a well-tuned recorder. If it's squealing, you just need practice. It's a Yamaha, which is enough to say it's high quality as can be expected from the brand. I've had a Yamaha recorder for near 20 years and the quality remains consistently good from then until now. I bought this new one because I knew I could expect good quality for the low price. The price is right. For what it is, a low cost student instrument, this thing plays very well. The benefit of having a no-maintenance plastic recorder heavily outweighs the slightly thin sound it produces. You never oil it like wood, and don't even need to swab it afterwards if you're in a hurry to pack it up.It's solidly constructed and fits together snugly. I've bought a few off-brands on the fly that came loose at the joints while playing, but this never happens with a Yamaha.Comes with a zippered pouch, cleaning rod, joint grease, and fingering instructions.

This is my first recorder that I've bought. I recently acquired in interest in baroque music, especially after hearing some of Telemann's music, so I thought I'd give it a try. The only kind of experience I really have with woodwinds is the clarinet and flute, but I suppose its better than starting off blind.First off, this thing responds greatly. I've been able to get into the high register pretty easily and none of the notes feel stuffy or weak. Really beautiful sounding instrument, even my father who doesn't have a single musical bone can tell that it sounds more than just a plastic toy. It's rather easy to maintain and take care off, and the bag is of high quality as well. The recorder has no wiggle room in it, but also isn't being squished so I know its safe. The only bad thing I've come to notice (other than my squeaking) is that in the high register the notes get quite sharp. I'm not sure if this is because of my air or playing, but it's nothing I can fix right now. This may improve with practice though. I also find myself having to clean the moisture building up every 15 minutes or so because the sound gets blocked up (albeit I've never played the recorder before so I can't say much). If you want to get into the recorder or are even an intermediate player yourself, I'd recommend this.

I have been playing the recorder for a few months now. I have a wooden soprano recorder and my cork broke the other day. It has always sounded sharp and I have been wanting to get a different recorder. When my cork broke I found this Yamaha recorder. I figured I would purchase it, as the price was less than I could find at my local music store. It came today and I am very happy I made the decision to get this instrument. It is much easier to play than my wooden recorder and the tone is very nice.

A much needed upgrade from Yamaha's cheaper recorders. In honesty, it still does sound cheap, but each note is fairly clean and sweet, this recorder makes for an enjoyable practice session. Still a fantastic instrument to use when not performing. This recorder comes with a great case, a cleaning rod, and grease for the connecting joints of the recorder, the use of grease is essential in making sure you do not prematurely wear the recorder through its lifetime. It is definitely a perfect starting recorder and kit.

All I need todo now is learn how to play it. If you have set your mind on learning to play something this recorder might be just the thing. I am going to give it a go and try and complete one more thing on my bucket list.
