I bought a Palram greenhouse, which I must say is overpriced. So are all their accessories. I bought the shelves because I felt like I couldn’t wing those, in such a small space (6x4, and I have tall plants for the bottom section). Then I hated the arm they use to manually allow the vent window to open, and saw the automatic one they make. It was almost $70, more than twice the price of this one and others. I did have to wonder if these cheaper ones would work; the short answer is, this one really does. The mechanism glides open and shut nicely. I’m surprised how quickly the internal temp of the greenhouse gets to 95 degrees, given that it’s winter, but on a sunny day, it does. Rather than monitor that and deal with it myself, this little gizmo is a lifesaver.Installation is a bit tricky on the Palram. I didn’t want to drill holes in the aluminum frame to put skinny bolts in, like the ones they included. The greenhouse kit came with extra bolts and nuts, so I parked two of those in the groove system they use on either side, and ordered this thing, and thought it would all just go together. Ha—of course not. The straight holes could just barely fit over the Palram square head bolt shafts; it took some persistence to install that part. And the slotted holes were even worse; they didn’t fit at all, were too narrow by at least 1 mm. For that, a file didn’t get me too far, but a rotary tool sure did… I used a rotary tool and a cone-shaped diamond bit to ream out the slotted holes where I needed the bolts to fit, right about in the middle. (Mark it before you ream, just so you get the right spot.)But, once that was dealt with, this thing has been wonderful. Plants are happy and alive, which is more than I could say if I still had to open the door or vent window manually to prevent overheating!

I love that it works without electricity or even batteries. It’s not even solar powered, except that the heat that occurs inside the greenhouse is what makes the arm extend. As I recall the diagram in the instructions didn’t make it clear where you would attach it, but I had installed one before On a cold frame that I have By placing it in a warm area and letting it expand, you can tell that you would attach it at the opening opposite the hinge of the window. See photo. Bye, turning the cylinder in or out, you can fine-tune the temperature that activates it. This was the single spring model that I ordered as it is a very lightweight window. I also did not order a stainless steel version. If that ends up being a problem, yours down the road it would not be very expensive to replace.

Bought to replace a failed opener in my greenhouse roof. This one works better than the old (identicle looking) one. The old one had trouble opening the ven initially and needed a little help. This one does not.

Bolts weren't long enough, so had to get some, but all in all, it does work good. you'll need a drill, screwdriver, drill bit

Update: it quit working because the pin came out of the piston rod.

Directions useless. Doesn't work with metal greenhouse. Really shoddy product. Warning, try to install it right away: I missed my return window by TWO days...Disgusted.

I installed two of these vent openers in my 8'x8' greenhouse so I wouldn't have to be around to open or close the vents manually when the temperature went up too high or too low in the greenhouse. Two years now and they work like a charm, but I do take them into my house after I remove my plants from the greenhouse because I think this will extend their usable lifespan. I reinstall the automatic openers/closers in the spring just before putting my plants in the greenhouse. So far, great! I also have a spare set on standby just in case they fail when I really need them.

Toss the instructions because they are worthless. After spending hours finding installation instructions on Youtube, we finally figured out that the part arrived from the factory incorrectly put together. Once we fixed that, the part worked fine, which is why I am giving an extra star.
