I put this set up on my 74 Avanti with a Dana 44 rear. You MUST remove the rear from the carrier to install. Not a big deal. DONOT believe the youtube saying you can do it in the case. My mechanic installed it in 1.5 hours. (he does have the right tools to remove DANA axles). In terms of function, the car tracks dead straight on launch. The slight chirping & lunging on tight turns at parking lot speeds does not bother me since this is a weekend only car. It seems to be worse in reverse vs forward.

Perfect solution for my 87 Cherokee trail rig with the factory 44 rear and 3.54 gears. Heeding advice from super-reliable internet forums, I decided to forego the old Lincoln-locker and buy this instead. Install was easy-peasy in my D44, just make sure you have a 3/16" punch with a long enough shank to be able to slip down into the cross-pin tube. I did NOT have a long enough punch so I went to Home Depot, bought a 4 foot piece of 3/16" steel rod, and cut it to a longer length that would reach down into the cross pin hole. Spider gears fell out easily, and the mini spool went in without an argument. NOTE: it isn't the shiny gold color shown in the picture...it is black. Doesn't both me since I will probably never see it again. It held up on one wheeling trip already and completely changed my traction game...vast improvement over my stock open rear end. I run the factory 4.0L, auto trans, on 33" boggers. I would highly recommend this to anyone with a similar powertrain, but probably not with over 35" tires. And don't run it on the street, unless you like paying for tires.
