I should begin this review by saying I usually buy “cheap†rods and reels - my spinning rod and reel (Berkley Cherrywood rod and Q-Ray reel) both cost less than $45. My spincast setup (Berkley Cherrywood and Zebco 33 Platinum) both cost less than $55. All the aforementioned are still in perfect working condition and I’ve had them for at least eight years now. I never thought I’d need and other spincaster, but I’ve started using braid and the 33s (with the exception of one generation that had a conical spool and worked well with braid) don’t do so well with braid. I bought this reel because it states it can use braid; that statement is absolutely true. The mono that came on the reel had some memory to it, so I stripped it off and replaced it with 30lbs. Runcl braid. I filled the reel and tied on a 1/0 Tru-Turn hook with a 1/32 bullet weight. I put a plastic worm on the hook and sent them flying through the air. I was surprised at how smooth the reel is and how far the worm went. I made a few more casts and can say this reel is awesome. I should have mentioned before that the spool has a textured finish on it so, when lining it with braid, the line has something onto which it can grab instead of just spinning around and around. The reel has a big handle which makes line retrieval quick and comfortable. The one thing to know with these reels, as well as some other Zebco reels, is that the casting button must be depressed before the cover can be unscrewed. When I fish with spincast reels, I palm them. This reel is a little on the bigger side, similar to the Omega, but it’s not so big that it’s uncomfortable; I did, however, buy a 20 series of this reel too. They are both very nice and smooth.

Absolutely love this reel. Casting glides out line. Have not had line tangle on spool ever. I'm a woman that wants to fish independently, without asking my husband to sort my line problems. This reel was perfect. The men even like how smooth Casting this reel is. They all call it my snoopy reel. I love it.

It’s very smooth and can cast a long distance. It is a heavier reel. Seems to be very durable. Can handle the fish. I was hoping it was a lighter weight. So 4 stars because it is heavy.

Had a very good quality casting fishing rod and passed it on to my grandson. The old baitcaster reel took a little know how and luck not to " bird next " and then take time untangling line . Got this reel and put 20 lb braided line on ......... PROBLEM SOLVED. This reel is great quality, works great and make fishing enjoyable for my grandson. Really wish I had use this reel when I was younger. Took it fishing before giving it to him and couldn't believe how far it cast , how easy and perfect it was .

These reels are easy to use. I have several of them and have used them for years. I have caught tons of bass on them No back lash. I use bait castors also,but I use these Zebco’s for skipping under docks and fishing hard to get to places. I change the line out to 14 lb mono

I bought the size 20 to put on a small dock runner ugly stik rod. This is a very smooth reel and seems to be good quality. Would definitely recommend.

PRO:1. Using Zebco my whole life, and like when they put-out new / updated models.2. Very smooth reeling and casting and all around versatile.3. No tangles, no bird nesting, etc.4. They came down in price finely, I was upset when they reached 100+5. Replace line is easy.6. Light coat of reel butter keeps this from rusting.7. Make sure you rinse this with fresh water, then put reel lube / butter on it for the winter.CON:1. The soft foam on the handle knobs makes me worried, they may get damaged if scraped.2. Wish there was a larger SALT WATER version of this model.3. Not stainless steel inners, so make sure to clean and lube this well and offten.OTHER:1. BUY if you love some Zebco reels, this is one of the better ones.2. Don't let other fisher(persons) give you a hard time, tell them the fish at the end of the line don't know or care how it got in the boat.3. When this breaks, gets lost, stolen or other, I'm not out $450. I just order another and two days later, boom back in business.

Bought this reel for light lure fishing. One of the selling points was that it was rated for braid. Have not replaced the line it came with as yet as this seems to be good line. Used it twice and have been impressed with the smooth operation and robust feel. Would recommend.
