This heater replaces an 1 5/8" freeze plug and is 1000 wats. I used it on a small block Chevrolet and it will heat the coolant to 160* in an hour. The plug itself is cast, not stamped like the cheaper ones with less wattage.

I got the 1000W version on Apr of 2024. Didn't need it until this winter, and when I did, it failed after a few days use. I removed the heater and verified that the element was the failure point, and not the cord. I have since replaced it with the 600W version, same brand, and will leave a review next year on that page. I should note that the o-ring that seals the heater is of very high quality and didn't leak, just that the element burned out and would no longer heat.

There are other stamped brass block heaters from other brands out there, but this heater is a cast brass unit. I bought 3 cheap ones locally, and none worked or they leaked through the heating element. This unit cost a little more, but is worth it, because it solved my problem the first time and well made.

Let me start by saying, I NEVER write bad reviews. But i'm on my second replacement and this one has just burned out. These elements keep burning out on these block heaters. Very, very poor product. You always see online reviews with people just bashing a company and I don't like it because nine times out of ten its the persons fault. I can honestly say this isn't the case. I've owned diesels for along time and replaced block heaters many times. This is a very, very poor quality product in my opinion.

I had this professionally installed by a certified mechanic.After installing it, my mechanic noticed coolant leaking from the center screw hole.He had to drain and re-flush the coolant after installing a unit from his shop.

The original block heater in my engine was 100% brass, including the bolt to tighten the heater in place. The original was obviously the same brand but perhaps the specs were different. It was still working but the o-ring that seals the securing bolt started leaking and was cracked. Otherwise the original heater still was fine. I installed the new one because of the old age of the original.
