  • High density resists rotting in humid enviroments.
  • In aquariums, sinks immediately, no weighting down required.
  • Resists rotting

A beautiful two color African hardwood for aquariums or terrariums. Smooth surface, textured detail, and unique mottled color adds interest and enrichment to habitats. Use with plants to create the naturalistic" look. One of the hardest and densest woods available; sinks immediately in aquariums and unlike driftwood will not rot."

I am baffled by how anyone could debate that the sizing of this wood is not generous. I actually had to saw (with a real saw- this is SOLID quality wood!) mine to get it in the fish bowl. The wood has a variety of textures and colors, and is gorgeous. Photos truly do not do it justice, and it is heavy and solid. I grew up with a father who did woodwork as a hobby, as did my brother, and this is truly quality wood from my own experience. The thing to keep in mind with a fish tank/bowl or any water: wood leaks tannic acid, which will lower the PH of your water, which most sources say is GOOD for your fish. However, this results in a brown/dark hue in your water that is not pleasant to look at. We tend to think of "clear water" as best, but we aren't fish, we are people and we drink water rather than breathe it. To eliminate the dark hue, the most successful method I have found (much better than soaking) is boiling. I did this all day long, then tested it in room temp water the next day, but you will still get color in your water..there is no way around it!I chose to use this wood dry as decor in my home instead, as I was trying to use it in a betta bowl and the wood was taking over so much space that my betta would be a bit crowded.

This bog wood is great! I boiled it for 3 hours and put it in the tank after it cooled. It did turn the water a light tea color, but that didn't bother me, and it's fine for fish/frogs and helps keep the ph at a normal/lower level. I really like the colors in the wood as well. The longer it is in the tank the more colors come out, with was a fun surprise. I tied some java grass to the wood and it is taking really well and carpeting the wood with grass. The small bog wood was the perfect size for my 5 gallon tank. (I have several plants and a small sunken ship in there as well.) I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for some natural wood and look in your tank. If you like live plants the bog wood is a must to help keep the ph to a level they'll do well in and of course you can tie plants to the wood and they will grow into it making for a great, natural look to your tank- your fish will love you!

Was a little skeptical about getting natural wood online without having any idea of what I'd be getting. Took the gamble and glad I did. I ordered the medium and it was very natural looking and "stumpy". (added customer images above). It was about 10" long by 8" high kind of formed like a square. Lots of unique knots and crevices. I got this for a 55 gallon turtle tank and am trying to have many different types of environments so this is compact enough to stay in it's own area.Definitely boil it. This think leaked a ton of tannins on the first boil and stained a ring around the top of the water line. I'm guessing it's tannins and some burned wood bits? It's not just discolored there's a good layer of something on it. But was using a pot I take camping anyway. Probably still good for using for food though. Just don't use Mom's/wife's/girlfriend's favorite pot and you should be fine.Haven't set it up yet but have it soaking some more in water in an extra trash bin I have.If you're looking to just drop this into your aquarium--don't.In sum, this thing looks great though we all want that twisted knotted look as it's shown in the picture that may not happen. For me at least I'm glad what I got and it looks great. And for under 10 and with free shipping...you just can't go wrong. Take this gamble!

Product review for MEDIUM size Mopani Driftwood.I bought this wood for my 45G freshwater tank in my bedroom. The wood feels dense and heavy for its size; it sank immediately. The surfaces are very knotty and irregular with various protuberances, knobs, twists, and knots all over; one side a darker brown and the other side a lighter tan color. My piece is relatively flat, about 12x8x2 inches. I love this wood because it adds a nice natural look to my semi-planted tank. I bought the wood for my bristlenose pleco when he was less than an inch, and he pretty much grew up on it. Even months later, I will still see him on it gnawing on the various surfaces along with my Amano shrimps.TANNINS:Tannins will NOT harm your fish. Various tannin compounds are naturally found in many plants and freely leeched into ecosystems such as when trees die and fall into an adjacent river.pH:The tannins will lower your pH slightly, but not so much that it is a serious issue. Obviously, if you put a very large piece in a small tank, the pH drop will be more drastic and that may be a concern. In my 45G, the medium piece of wood lowered my pH from 7.2 to 7.0 after about 2 days (my water is slightly hard).Water color:This wood WILL leach and turn your water anywhere from light tan to almost light coffee, depending on the age of the wood, your tank water, water temperature, etc. There are a few ways to stop or mitigate this issue. The long way is to soak a new piece of wood in a bucket or something for a few weeks or until you see that it has stopped discoloring the water. I've read it took one person 6 MONTHS, so this way can be time consuming and impractical for those who wants to utilize the wood immediately. The short way is to boil the wood, let it sit an hour or so in the water, then reboil and repeat until it has stopped leeching. The third way and not recommended is to simply throw the wood ( without boiling) in the aquarium and let it leach out slowly, utilizing a product like Seachem Purigen in conjunction with activated charcoal to remove the tannins.Remember that tannins do NOT harm fish, plants, or invertebrates and chemically/artificially purifying the water is never recommended when there are biologically safer methods such as boiling/soaking.WARNING: Boil the wood in a pot you don't mind ruining. It leaves this sappy, gunky, extremely sticky residue that is a B%(^H to remove.I boiled my wood 3 times for about 30 minutes each time, let it soak overnight after the 3rd boil, and then placed it into my tank. It STILL leeched tannin and turned my water slightly tan. I was ok with it because it gave the tank a natural rustic look. Keep in mind that in the wild very few aquatic environments are perfectly clear like the way we prefer our aquarium tanks. After regular weekly water changes for about a month, the water cleared up.Price:Prices in Amazon is very reasonable for this product, especially with Prime Shipping. I challenge you to find a comparable size wood at a brick and mortar store for the same price/shipping.PROS:- Very heavy and dense, sinks immediately- 2-tone, adds a pleasing natural look to your tank- Fish/invertebrates love it- Cheaper prices on Amazon+ FREE shipping compared to local fish store- Lasts a long time without decomposition- Can't choose wood shipped to you, so you will be pleasantly surprised ( or not!) Dimensions may be different from advertised.CONS:- Leech tannins a long time; many won't like the ice tea color it tints your water- White fuzzy mold may develop after being in your tank (Confirmed on mine after a week, but my shrimps and fish ATE it )- Boiling to rid of tannins can be annoying- Can't choose wood, so you will be pleasantly surprised (or not!) Dimensions may be different from advertised.

Love it! (Very right piece in picture)Of course this wood is going to make your water brown due to the tannins, but this is actually why I got it! Tannins are really good for most fish! If you don’t like the brown color you can just do some water changes over the course of a few weeks, the wood will eventually stop producing as many tannins, or you can boil it to get some of the tannins out. Nice piece of wood

I was hesitant to buy a piece of wood online as I was afraid I’d get just a small flat piece of wood. The piece I got is not only beautiful but it is the perfect size. I have put mine in a terrarium with my air plants and I couldn’t be more pleased. It has holes through it that make it perfect to arrange my plants. Would look great in an aquarium as well.

This is a very pretty piece of wood! I absolutely love it! My bristlenose pleco is all around it! I placed it immediately in my aquarium as I wanted the tannins for my betta, yay less catapa leaves! I got the medium and it is quite large. I have another "large" driftwood which is half the size and conbined them. I absolutely recommend this product! It's the best one and extremely inexpensive for what I got!

When buying these random pieces, you never really know if you'll get a good cut. I purchased a small and large piece and I'm extremely happy with my purchase. The delivery was quick and painless.

A very nice piece arrived for me and looks beautiful in my gargoyle gecko terrarium. It would probably also look good in an aquarium.
