Note:
This is not an electronic speed controller (ESC), but a standalone Battery Eliminator Circuit (BEC) that cannot be connected to a motor.
Advantages compared to traditional BECs:
When using batteries with a series connection of 3 or more (11.1V and above), it can significantly reduce BEC heating and improve overall efficiency. For example, when using a 4S lithium battery, the voltage during normal usage is approximately 14.8V.
With a linear voltage regulator, to output a current of 5V/1A, the power supply side must also input a current of 1A. This means there would be a power consumption of 14.8V × 1A = 14.8W in the BEC, while the actual useful output of the BEC is only 5V × 1A = 5W. Therefore, the overall efficiency is only 5/14.8 = 33.8%, and the remaining 9.8W of power is converted into heat, leading to the BEC overheating and the chip entering protection mode, rendering it unable to function.
Using a switch-mode power supply, our actual tests have shown that only 0.38A of current needs to be input from the power supply side to output a current of 5V/1A, which is equivalent to a power of 14.8V × 0.38A = 5.6W.
