FAQS

  • How does Seestar S50 differ from traditional astrophotography?

Seestar S50 is an entry-level intelligent astronomical telescope that sets itself apart from other entry-level telescopes by allowing users to "see" various deep space celestial objects through photography. Compared with traditional astrophotography equipment, Seestar S50 has a higher level of integration and intelligence. It integrates a motion tracking motor, electric focuser, electric filter wheel, high-sensitivity image sensor, and intelligent controller. It can automatically find and photograph any target in its star database, and help the user get more and more clear images with the method of image stack and enhancement. However, due to its highly integrated design and lightweight body, it may not meet the requirements for "serious astrophotography".

  • Can Seestar S50 shoot any objects in deep space?

With its built-in anti-light pollution filter and good enough atmospheric transparency, Seestar S50 is able to shoot deep-sky objects even in city.

However, if we want to get good enough results, we still need to go to a dark site. We define the degree of light pollution into different levels. The larger the number is, the heavier the light pollution is. ZWO provides simple photos under different levels of light pollution after testing. We can compare them by ourselves. Also, don't forget that the moon is the biggest light pollution source at night, we must avoid such a time period as the full moon.

  • Can Seestar S50 guide during stargazing?

Seestar S50 does not support guiding. And since its exposure time for a single frame is only 10s, there is actually no need for guiding. Additionally, the S50 features a target auto-center function, ensuring that the target remains in the center of the view throughout the entire capture process.

  • I live in a very humid environment, does Seestar S50 work properly?

The telescope is a precision instrument and it is not recommended to store it in high humidity environments. Using or storing the telescope in a moist environment can pose a greater risk, such as mold on the lens and potential water damage. Therefore, it is advised to exercise caution and avoid exposing the telescope to excessive moisture.

  • Which type of shooting files saved? What is the resolution?

The format of shooting files are JPEG and FITS with 1080*1920 resolution.

I highly recommend this. It is great to have up and running while doing observation sessions with other scopes. It is easy to use, highly portable, and takes excellent pics for the money you pay. I enjoyed this more than expected. I recommend this to the amateur who wants to dabble in astrophotography and needs some help getting started. I also recommend this the intermediate-pro astrophotographer who wants a convenint and easy scope. The money is well worth it for what you get. Excellent product.

Easy to set up and use. Takes amazing astrophotos right out of the box! I own a couple of very serious scopes for visual observation and casual solar system photography, so wasn’t sure what to expect, but I am very pleased with the results!

This is a great telescope. Easy to use. Only downfall is that it will only focus on objects in the telescope's database.

This is how to use a telescope! Controlled by phone. No eyepiece to squat and crane your neck to look through. Pictures are on your phone or ipad. Great clarity! 5 minutes out of the box and my son had it working. It finds what you are looking for, tracks it automatically. It takes multiple images to compile the greatest clarity. Picture is M42 in Orion. Next is Jupiter and three moons. This was in the first hour of setting it up. Pretty great for a backyard town view with ambient lighting.

I loved this telescope. Unfortunately I had a family emergency that required me to send it back as I needed the extra finances to move quickly. Besides that however, I am in complete awe of how well this telescope works. The inherent value of the S50 EXCEEDS the cost and that is the best thing about it!It does take ALOT of getting used to. ALOT of trial and error, but for amateur (or even professional) astrophotography, you can’t beat this at all. Just see for yourself in these photos!

I bought this because I read several reviews that said after two minutes out of the box you’ll be looking at objects. That hasn’t been the case. Tonight was my first time to use it and I kept getting an error message that said “ please adjust the telescope position if it is blocked…”. So I googled it and now I’m supposed to calibrate and save some focus setting as a DWO whatever that is. This was supposed to be simple. It’s complex. Thinking about returning it tomorrow.

It's an amazing Telescope, easy to learn and use. Right out the box it can be set up within 15-20 mins. Amazing light gathering. Just an all around great scope
