UPDATE Nov. 30, 2023This is absolutely the best, mose reliable can opener I've ever had. Still going on the original battery and works perfectly each time.UPDATE I've been using this wonderful device since mid-April 2022 and it's still working flawlessly and I haven't yet had to change the battery. Highly recommend. This is the easiest to use can opener I have ever used! No fussing with trying to get a tooth in just the right place on the can. Just plop it on the can and push the button. When it's done, push the button again. It backtracks for a second, then stops. The top of the can is not sharp and just lifts off. The top edge of the can itself is sharp, it's just had the top cut off after all, but it's not going to jump up and bite you.Such a relief to be able to open a can with my arthritic hands and fading vision.I just wish it was rechargeable, but even if the batteries only last a few cans-worth, I'd buy it again and again, it's that good.

Years ago Westinghouse sold perhaps the worlds best can opener, the Sesame. The can opener cut the edge of the top of the can seal, left no sharp edge, and you could set the can top back on the can to cover it. The cutter really didn't need cleaning because it never got close to the food in the can. The only disadvantage is that if you like to let the can lid fall into the can to help drain the liquid from the food inside you really couldn't do that because the lid wouldn't drop into the can.I thought when I purchased the Zyliss it might have reintroduced the engineering of the Sesame, sadly it does not.So, does that make it bad, not necessarily but it isn't a perfect solution. Why not, well let's first tackle that no sharp edge myth. It cuts the can on the outside just below the rolled steel edge. It leaves a brutally sharp and more exposed edge all around the top of the can facing up. It also leaves little pieces of torn paper from tge label that might end up in your food. Because the blade is cutting the can below the top you might find the contents leaking while it is cutting if the can is full or not sitting on a completely flat surface. The other potential problem is that by removing the entire top of the can, including the rolled steel weld, the can loses integrity with the top off so if you squeeze it too hard its contents will squeeze out. Of course the lid can't easily be used to strain the liquid out of the can because tge cut off lid will not fit inside. So those are the mechanical issues with the design which would be common to all similar side cutting can openers. But does it work to simply open cans? Yes, it works just fine. It is easy to get started on the can and easy to remove and clean. It should work on any size and shape can. I had recently purchased a cordless Hamilton Beach can opener and compared to it this is 100% better and I trust it won't die in 6 months like the Hamilton Beach or be virtually impossible to start. I will keep a regular, manual, top cut opener on hand though for when I have a can that I don't feel this one is practical to use with.

I have used this product for almost a year. I cook dinner daily for a family of five so I need to open cans quite often, I was looking for a can opener that attached to my cabinets so it wouldn’t be on the counter unfortunately I couldn’t find any but this product is even better. It just goes into my accessories drawer in the kitchen and I just grab when I need it. Can size does not matter, I open multiple different sizes and it is not a problem at all and I’m not technically savvy but using it is super easy if I can use it, anyone can use it. I highly suggest this product.

The battery usage is amazing (going on 9 months) so wanted to update my original review to note that. A little noisy. The opened can still has a slightly sharp edge. Liquid can be spilled because it is not auto-stop. You have to push the button and hold it about 3 seconds to stop the opener. That action is awkward and creates a few spills. Ok value, one just has to get accustomed to the way it works. We've had it around a month (updated: 9 months) and have not had to change the batteries yet.

This to our household is the best can opener going. Smooth cutting with no sharp edges. We will not purchase anything else. A great purchase.

My girlfriend recommended this to me. She has had hers for 9 years! It takes practice to turn it off & wait a few minutes to take it off with the top of the can. It cuts off the entire top of can, regardless is it’s a heavy cardboard can. I bought a different king with the same idea, but it wouldn’t cut through the cardboard cans.I highly recommend tho can opener!

My elderly mum can't use any other tin openers we've tried. Had to wait for this to arrive but boy was it worth it. Mum is 103 & this allows her to keep her independence which is so important to her

The top of the can is cut off from the side leaving a sharp edge. If you are a careful person this is not an issue. I've been using mine for some time and have replaced the battery once. I like it's small size and portability. It does the job, but like I said watch out for the cut edge of the can.
