I use this to measure brix for figuring the ABV of my wines. I've used two other methods of measuring and compared the results from this and found out to be very accurate when coupled with the app I use. It's perfect for measuring ABV on batches i forgot to pre-measure potential with my hydrometer or for measuring old batches/bottles. It's clear and easy to read, and simple to use. It also comes in decent protective storage case. The recommendation for this is an easy yes.

I haven't used it yet but it looks legit. Exactly like the glycol one I used at work. Seems well made. Comes with a nice case and everything. I'll update if I remember once I give it a go.

I was surprised at how well this refractometer worked, given the incredibly low price compared to the lab instruments I'm used to. It appears to be well made and durable. I don't tend to abuse instruments, so this should last longer than me. If you're not familiar with brix or refractometers, there is a slight learning curve to climb. After that, this device is great for taking measurements with a minimal sample size. For brewers/vinters used to floating hydrometers, this reduces your sample pull to a drop of fluid. Put the drop of fluid on the prism, close the cover, and look through the device. Take the measurement and use your calculator to determine where you are vs. where you want to be. It really is as easy as that.

I used to have a manual refractometer like this one, but I couldn't find it after we moved. I recently bought a digital refractometer but decided to buy this, as well, as I've always been able to trust the manual refractometers from years working in a lab.I had to zero this one, as it was slightly high from zero. Super easy adjustment screw on top. I also zeroed my digital refractometer with the same room-temperature distilled water. The digital meter says "calibrate" when performing this function, but it is really only setting the zero point, as there is no ability to also calibrate against a higher value standard solution.When testing mead that I just made, my readings with the two devices were comparable:12.1% Brix with this manual refractometer12.2% Brix with my digital meterBoth devices then read 0.0% Brix after retesting with distilled water again.So-- I can't judge accuracy, as I have no known standard to check, but I was happy to find that my two devices read comparably in the 12% Brix range!

I make fruit wines as a hobby and was excited to see this product. I used it while making a batch of pineapple wine and it compared favorably with the results from my hydrometer. It was easy to use, clean, and seems to have a nice, sturdy build. It is also easy to adjust. I look forward to testing the results on some new fruit trees I've planted as well. This is a very handy piece of equipment for any projects where you need to know the sugar content of a liquid.

NANBEI 0-32% Brix Meter Refractometer with ATC, Refractometer Honey,Portable Refractometer for Honey,Digital brix RefractometerI got my first refractometer in Aug of 2023 because a friend asked me to make wine from her grapes. I have no idea how to make wine. Through my research, I discovered this was the most important tool I needed. So I got one that also had approximate alcohol % too. It was a nice tool knowing what range I could expect from my wine. Hint it's roughly half the Brix%. I got the wine fermenting and decided it was fun.So, then I decided to make crab apple cider. As I grabbed my last measurement on the cider, my refractometer busted its guts. More on that later.I thought I'd explain calibration as it is important to getting consistent results. To calibrate a refractometer, you drip some distilled water onto the viewing area and lower the cover. Look into the site, the reading should be zero. You can adjust the eyepiece end to improve the focus if you need to. In this case it was reading about a 1% too high (pic 2). To adjust the meter you lift off the rubber cap near the testing window and use a flat head screwdriver (pic 3) to adjust the screw inside that metal nut to bring the blue bar to 0% (pic 4). To check if it was reading properly, I tested some store bought peach juice and it read about 10% sugar (pic 5).Who knew that I needed a refractometer in my life? I've always made jams and jellies and generally followed a set recipe adjusting how much sugar to add by taste. Now, I can also use this meter to hopefully use less added sugar to achieve spectacular results.About my old meter failure . . . The last picture, I pulled back the rubber cover on the main body to show that it is plastic. The end of the barrel is threaded and screws into the metal meter housing. My old meter was almost identical to this one except for the scale. After, knocking it around and trying to adjust focus incorrectly, I caused that barrel to crack at the screwed end. Once light gets in there the meter can no longer do it's job. So don't do that!

This is my first refractometer so I have nothing to compare it to. But I think it works well. I did have to calibrate it first but that was pretty easy.It comes in a nice plastic carrying case for storage. The meter itself seems well made. The body is metal with plastic and rubber pieces.It’s easy to use. Just point it at a light and read the scale.Would recommend!
