Had a 5.56 barrel I was changing the muzzle break on, but the old one had been peened on. The 1/2 by 28 threads were mangled. This product straightened about 95%-99%. There was just one thread that was flatter than the rest. But after the 2nd or 3rd time spinning it on it twisted with 1 finger. Great product for a 5.56 barrel.

I purchased this die to work on the threads of an AR15 Barrel. The barrel had a muzzle brake that when removed had some debris in the threads which flattened about six (6) threads about half way down. Threading the die on using a die holder and some Kroil Oil, I threaded the die over all the threads, backed it off and did it a second time. The die worked well, cutting the threads sharply & precisely. It definitely cleaned up what would have been an unusable barrel. The new muzzle brake went on with absolutely no issues. Great tool.

Work great with combination of CNCwarrior thread starter. Most of negative reviews are from the people have never use a die or a tap. The quality is excellent for the price.

It will get the job done. Being I had to get a handle for it. To make it work good. I used it in stainless and it got the job done. Just take it slow and use cutting oil. Make sure you make the o.d slightly smaller to make this task easier.

works for cleaning up threads on barrels after done on the lathe.......can thread barrels as well but requires lots of work to make sure is lined up correctly.......good product for the price.......EDIT: forgot, since it doesn't say this fits 1.5" handle socket, so if you don't have one u will need one

Good die, but doesn't cut full threads on one end, with most dies, after starting on the start side I like to flip the die and finish on the opposite end to cut full threads as close to a shoulder as possible, with this particular die, both sides are starting sides

I suspect this die is designed for use in a threading machine that feeds at the same tpi rate. It did not want to "bite" or get started in the piece due to the aggressive teeth design. I had to remove way too much material from the stock to get this die to work. I would NOT recommend this die if you are doing any piece by hand. I'll be looking for a Craftsman next and this will be lost in the drawer.

I was looking around any hardware store or machine shops. No one seems to have these in stock and some didn't even knew about that size (1/2 x 28tpi).Finally, decided to give a shot on amazon.ca to find this product and by chance, I've found the Die & Tap for that size...I've tried the die and the tap. They work flawlessly. They cut some good & clean threads and the tool looks as new.For your information, if you want to make a 1/2x28 tpi thread, you should buy a 29/64" specialized bit at your local hardware store (Rona or else).This size of bit is perfect to make your hole into you metal piece and afterward, you're ready to tap it on 1/2x28!
