Type F Thread-Cutting Screws
What They Are and Why Use Them?
A Type F point is a thread-cutting screw designed specifically for wood-to-metal and metal-to-metal applications. Unlike self-drilling screws that have a drill tip, Type F screws require a pre-drilled hole before installation. Once inserted, the cutting edges of the screw create their own threads as they engage with the material.

Need to replace about 100 bolts in a toy hauler trailer. It has Logistic L-Track aka airline track for tie down locations. the OE installed undercut flat head screws are having heads breaking/pooping off!! Already had 6 broken bolts like this! I had to use a drill and broken screw extractor to get the broken self tappers out. A real chore!! They are way to tight! But the new screws look great, these are not undercut, but "self drilling" and the threaded hole is already there in the floor, so these are installing easily. TORX is the way to go on fasteners! Better than hex head and FAR better than Phillips (all my L-Track is installed with Phillips).. Happy to replace all of them over time.

I used these to attach the e-track through the plywood and to the steel frame of my trailer. 100 was more than enough.I also used"50 PCS #14 x 2 Sheet Metal Screws, Black Hex Washer Head Self Drilling Screw, Flanged Hex Self Tapping Screws, 410 Stainless Steel, Hex Bit Socket Included"to screw the e-track to the the plywood, where there was no underlying steel anchor point.I only bought one pack of those (50 pieces), but a second was needed to finish the job right.Worked well.

Considering the cost of these compared to what was locally available, I’ll buy these again. Only stripped a couple of them at the start, upsized my pilot bit and they worked fine. Cutting oil and proper pilot hole sizes are the key, will purchase again on my next trailer deck project.

Replaced decking on car hauler. Replaced treated pine with oiled Douglas Fir. Increased size of fasteners from 1/4 inch to 5/16th. Predrilled holes just under 5/16th. Easy install.
