I used this on several occasions making circles and stars for landscaping projects and it works very well and is very sturdy. I've used both the metal tip to scribe concrete as well as a pencil to draw circles for stencils on cardboard and plywood and it has been consistent in its performance.

I bought this for working on canvas for art - it is not right for that as it is very sturdy and heavy. That being said if I was using it for its stated purpose, it would be perfect. The steel is solid and the mechanism to secure it works well. I bought the 12inch version and that works great for what I want. If you want something sturdy that will last this is for you.

I used this building a large patio and series of sidewalks for a customer. It worked perfectly for marking and cutting pavers for all my radius sections.

Amazingly large compass, great for working with sheet plywood. Holds setting well, as evidenced by the circle meeting exactly when you complete the circle. I subtracted a star due to the pencil holder being too small to hold the giant round, heavy lead pencils or the three corner carpenter pencils. A tool this large and massive deserves a heavier lead pencil than the typical #2 pencil.
