I was away for a month and when I got back, the fridge wasn't working. I thought maybe there was a thermal fuse that broke. Then I found this part and replaced it and the fridge is working again. Saved me a lot of money changing it myself.

My fridge was making 2-3 clicks trying to start the compressor. I read up that it is usually the starter mechanism that is failing, and to replace that first. I have a Whirlpool ED5DHEXWQ00 and after looking far too long, there seemed to be different newer replacement numbers for everything. The starter itself had W10197427 on it. The capacitor on this one was a little different, but other sources said it should work fine, as the starter itself is providing 115-127V and the Embaco EGZS 80HLP compressor is 1/4HP. I pulled my fridge out from the wall slowly, unplugged the power, then pulled the starter+capacitor from the compressor (It slides off, no screws. Be gentle.) and then slowly pushed the new one on, and plugged my fridge back in while it was still pulled from the wall. I left it running for a day before pushing it back into the wall to monitor the starter to make sure it wasn't being weird. (I've seen screenshots of peoples starters melting because they used the wrong parts) It's been running fine for a few weeks now. No more clicking, fridge is working great.Update after almost a year: Refrigerator is still running smooth! This part really did the trick!

I returned home from a trip and after being inside the house for just a few seconds I heard an odd sound from our refrigerator. It was a clicking sound of the starter trying to get the compressor going, then clicking off. After a quick investigation and testing the compressor to make sure it wasn’t shorted, then I quickly ordered this. Apparently it had already been in this state for a day or two and my wife never noticed, but the freezer was clearly no longer freezing at this point (ice cream was liquid) so we emptied the freezer into our deep freeze while we waited a day for this part to arrive. After it was delivered, within 5 minutes I had it installed and the compressor was working perfect again, and within a very short time the freezer was once again cold enough to freeze ice and put stuff back in. Thankful for the amazing pricing and speed on this provided by Amazon.

We first found the issue with our fridge being that the capacitor was not keeping the compressor on, turning off the fridge inconsistently. This piece was the perfect fit and had fixed the issue right away on our fridge! After a single week of working, the house began to smell like burnt plastic and found that it was originating from the back of the fridge. I checked the inner work of the fridge in the back and took a picture of the capacitor burnt to a crisp on the top, melting the plastic thus destroying it.I am severely disappointed and am now having to look for someone to fix my refrigerator to see if this piece has damaged any other piece in the fridge. The piece has the right production number and has been proven to work! Only now I am concerned by the manufacturers quality evaluation of the product. I do not recommend buying the piece here, find the retailer of your refrigerator and buy from them, no matter the cost.

I believe this is the correct part of what I needed for part W10128791 since I was told the new part number is WPW10197428, It did arrive quickly thanks to signing up for Prime. It does look slightly different and does have a different quick connect but does come with 2 crimp terminal that I could not fit on it. I was able to make it work for now to get the refrigerator working at least. The old part is the all black and the new one is the grey/black. I attempted some pictures to show the difference. Also the wire clip to hold it in place against the compressor does not work with the new one, had to get creative again.

Our refrigerator stopped working sometime during the night. We awoke to everything in the fridge warm and melted. We lost quite a bit of groceries. It was tempting to just get a new fridge. But, at this time it would be a burden. So, after much research via uTube, we saw this item being replaced and the fridge was back to doing it's job. We ordered and received it in 2 days, it was a holiday weekend. It came just as described, it took my husband less than five minutes to install. It started up right away and has been doing great. We consider this a miracle. It was very easy to diagnose and fix. We are not repairmen!!! Highly recommend this !!!!!!

Much less expensive than Whirlpool parts. Three hole connector on relay was tight but used a Philips screwdriver to enlarge holes slightly. Tight fit won't vibrate loose. Didn't have to replace flat connectors, just bent them 90 degrees to make 1/4 connectors into 1/8 wide connectors. Less than half hour to slide refrigerator out and back and install parts. Connected parts and refrigerator started right up and began cooling. Old parts were probably fried by power surge when we lost power. Use YouTube for how to do it.

My starter tested bad, so I took a chance and ordered this one. My Frigidaire compressor is exactly 1/4 HP, the max rating for this starter, but I had no melting or other issues some people have complained about. I did watch it VERY closely for the first hour or so. I promise I'll update this review if I have problems. As of now my refrigerator seems to be working great. I was about to spend over $1,000 to buy a new refrigerator, I'm ecstatic that I saved that money!!!

Worked for Whirlpool top Freezer requiring a W10194431 start relay that was 4 times the price. I just installed this unit and everything is fine so far. Will update review should things change.
