It works about like you would expect. The only downsides are that some of the food slides up the walls and on top of the press which is kind of annoying and I wish it had some sort of hook at the hinge end to place it on a bowl without sliding off but other than that it works great.

I really liked using this 2 LB Depot Potato Ricer as my mashed potatoes turned out really smooth with no solid chunks. The first time I tried fitting this ricer together it took me a couple of try’s to get it right, but now it’s all good. The 4 inch metal cup was large enough to increase the speed of smashing the soften boiled potatoes but it was a bit hard to push the 6 inch metal handles together. I had an unexpected problem while using it when the bottom metal disc got pulled up and away from the metal cup. I was surprised but I placed the disc back in place and a few minutes later the metal disc fell downward onto the top of the riced potatoes as I was pushing the handles together. I was more affected by this problem than my mashed potatoes as they turned out smooth, creamy and delicious after an adding some heavy cream and butter. Easy clean up as I found out the hard way the metal parts come apart for a rinse/dishwasher process. Once the 5 metal pieces all fit together it makes for an easy storage in the kitchen cabinet.

Used it for spaetzle a couple times. The dies get stuck to the plunger and come out and get stuck. The press support came loose after two uses. There are plenty of better options. Don't waste your money on this one. It will just frustrate you.

We gave this potato ricer a tough test. We ran leftover baked potatoes through it - they were slightly underbaked, cold, and had been in the fridge for a couple of days. Warmer or more fully baked potatoes would have made things easier, but this tool was still up to the task! We peeled the potatoes and started with the coarsest disk with the largest holes. Ran the potato through, then switched to the medium disk. Everything worked beautifully! The tool was easy to figure out - in fact, I turned my teenager loose to figure it out on her own, with no issues. It was easy to use - no clogs or struggles. Sometimes, when she lifted the plunger up to refill, the disk would stick to the potato residue and come up with the plunger, but it was easy to drop it back into place. Very minor thing, not a problem.The potatoes came out nice and smooth after the pass through the medium disk. There was still a tiny bit of texture to the mash, which we wanted. We didn't want the potatoes to be too silky, since we were putting them on top of a shepherd's pie, and wanted them to be just a tad rustic. Another pass through the fine disk would have made them truly smooth. Clean up was easy - stainless steel is a breeze to clean.Great tool! Well made, does its job nicely.
