The outside ring where it clamps measures 38mm, however there is a slight taper to it that is reduced to less than that near the element.Both openings are twice as big as any carburetor Venturi, so this is not detrimental.Just if the company sees this, the filter boot collar that tightens to the carburetor must be cylindrical. This keeps it from working loose under vibration, in addition to not reducing the filter aperture.Would still buy again.

Exactly what I was looking for, they for perfect on my 1980 Honda CB750. Super easy to install and great value compared to K&N filters.
