These were impossible to find locally. I am planning to use these taps to hob tiny gears on my Unimat lathe. The fit and finish of these taps is excellent. Even in this small size, there are no burrs and every cutting edge is even and smooth. Now that I have these, I might consider using them for tiny repairs in light materials so that screw reinforcement could be added.

This review is for 2pcs No 4-40 UNC Thread Tap Right Hand, HSS 4 x 40 UNC Straight Fluted Machine TapThese are good taps for chasing threads and making threaded holes in aluminum and mild steel.Using them in alloy steels like stainless will require great care and good lubrication, because taps like this are easy to break. The fact they are tool steel is a plus and should make them more durable than cheap high carbon steel taps.I drilled 6 holes in 1/4" 6061 aluminum and cold rolled steel plate using a #43 drill. Using a hand tapping handle, I proceeded to thread each hole. I used Tap Magic in the aluminum and a general purpose tapping oil in the steel. The taps cut the holes cleanly and the tools showed no sign of wear after the test was complete. The resulting threads looked clean and accepted a 4-40 SHCS with no binding. These taps do the job and the price is pretty good.

Work well, but if you're not careful and methodical and it gets jammed up in the hole, it will snap off easily. The 2 pack lasted me about a week of light use (6-12 holes per day)

I am going to use these to tap into brass material, by hand even though it is not recommended.Profile of these taps are of a starter tap, which should work fine in brass.Tough to get a decent picture of these, they are small.

Good for mild steel and nonferrous metals. Great for cleaning or retapping existing threads. Reasonably priced.

These 2-56 UNC taps are somewhat hard to get locally, and I was glad to get these. They are class 2B taps which are basically general purpose with fair tolerances and wide application. The taps are made of HSS which is a step up from carbon steel taps. In use, they worked well in aluminum and steel. I will be using them mostly for electronic projects. They can be somewhat fragile, so having a spare is nice.

These taps look like they will do the typical DIY thread chase / threading into aluminum, etc.Don't expect them to last for production work or in hard steel, etc. But for the typical DIY/weekend warrior they are more than adequate. I keep several, as 4-40, 6-32 and 8-32 all seem to have short shelf lives due to their tiny and fragile nature.FIve stars - no issues. Imported tool steel. They are exactly what they say they are. tool steel 4-40 taps.
