  • Flensted Mobiles are a traditional handicraft in Denmark. The first modern designer mobile was made there in 1954. Today Flensted Mobiles is based on the Danish island of Funen, the birthplace of Hans Christian Anderson, where it creates its very own design fairy tales from the old village school in Brenderup. We are represented all over the world, and take pride in bringing you handmade Danish design for your home - and your heart.
  • Made of light, high quality cardboard, and measures 14" X 20" when displayed. Please see the product description below for more details, and a Flensted Mobile FAQ, and click the "by Flensted Mobiles" link below this page's product title to view all of our different styles.

How can I clean my mobile?
Mobiles made of cardboard should only be dusted with a soft brush. Mobiles made of wood, aluminium or plastic can be wiped with a moist cloth with a few drops of mild dishwashing detergent.
How long can my Mobile last?
One person called us and said that they had inherited a Science Fiction Mobile from her grandmother who had had it for 30 years! In our home we have had the same mobile hanging for more than 20 years.
Can my mobile hang outdoors?
No. Since they are very sensitive to the simplest whiff of air hanging them outside is not recommendable.
Will my mobile fade?
In many of our mobiles we use plastic foil. This material is lightproof and easy to clean. Some other mobiles are made of cardboard. Even though we use the highest quality cardboard it will fade over the years. Red colors fade more than blue. You can delay fading by hanging the mobile out of direct sunlight.
When hanging your mobile, try it in different places and bear in mind the following suggestions:
1. The mobile is designed to be a pleasure to the eye and a stimulus to the imagination. Hang out of reach of children. It is not a toy.
2. Hang it away from direct sunlight to avoid the colors fading and the shapes distorting.
3. Hang it where there is some movement of air but no strong draft. A slow, quiet movement is the essence of the mobile. Do not hang it outdoors.
4. Where practical, hang the mobile where it has a subdued, uniform background. A corner position against light-colored walls is often the best location.
5. If possible, hang it in the light from a lamp. The shadow that the mobile casts onto a wall or ceiling will give the mobile yet another dimension. A candle is a concentrated light source which will produce distinct, well-defined shadows.
6. Hang the mobile where you can watch it while listening to music. You will see the mobile move to the rhythm of the music.

It seemed a little pricey for paper, but I loved the design, so I took a chance. It is paper, but it's also a masterpiece of design - extremely lightweight, delicate, and beautifully balanced. I woke up the other morning and the room was dim. The birds swooped and glided with the tiniest breezes, looking like they were actually flying. I love this piece, and it is absolutely worth the cost! Someone put some effort into making something really elegant.

I like the overall effect of gently gliding birds. I was a little puzzled about what part of the bird should been seen best from below, because they don't all hang evenly. I think folding them in the middle helps a bit, but they could be strung better to create the best view. Mainly the instructions enable this to happen, but not 100%. (You definitely need to hang them very high, and not in a place where tall friends can walk into them.) I already have different artisan birds hanging from wood beams in my kitchen, so the mobile fits right into this theme theme. The only complaint: I'd like to see more than 2-3 of these Flensted mobiles resembling the original ones by Calder (without identical copies of course). Other than that, I like these "indoor" birds, and find them soothing.

At first, tbh I thought this was a tad expensive but the reviews were good so I went ahead and ordered it... glad I did! It's absolutely stunning, compliments the aesthetic of my baby's nursery and he loves staring at these beautiful birds floating eloquently above him.

So ridiculous. I already have an amazing 5 cardinal mobile that my grandson enjoys. I bought this one because those with 5 birds were even more exorbitant. The package looked like it was in some dirty garage and might have been run over. When he opened the mobile to hang for display it was so ridiculously made that I was utterly embarrassed giving it as a gift. Tiny wires with fishing twine are attached to flimsy tiny birds, all yours for the mere price of $40! What a racket.

We bought this mobile for our first son's nursery. I was looking for something different since I didn't like the look of the plastic mobiles with stuffed animals. This is perfect! We've had this mobile since our baby was born and he loves it! I put it above the changing table since he was in a bassinet at first. Now that he is two months old he doesn't take his eyes off of the birds while I'm changing his diaper! His first smile was while he was watching them. If he's crying I'll take him upstairs and lay him on the changing table and as soon as the birds catch his eye he calms down. He loves it so much I just purchased the storks to hang above his crib. I agree that even though they are just paper, string, and metal, the real value is in how perfectly balanced they are and how beautifully they move. I also love that unlike a cheesy mobile that he'll outgrow, these can hang in his room for years. I would absolutely recommend this product!

I bought this mobile to have something for my friend's three month old to look at. I was looking for something non traditional because well, it might be a little weird for me to have baby stuff all over my house when I don't actually have a baby.. Unfortunately this mobile is too small for her or she's too small for it, depending on how you look at it.. It is well made and moves around with ease. Removing it from the packaging made me a little uncomfortable as it is just made out if paper and tiny thread. Ultimately it ended up in my bedroom where I enjoy it and I ordered a color changing spinning led bulb($4 on Amazon # MGL801A) for my baby friend. Baby loves it and is totally mesmurized! Not as Zen as this but I guess babies aren't vey refined ;)

This is a well made piece of art that would serve as a baby mobile, keeping them visually stimulated, and then be put away in its box to be retrieved as a classy piece of artwork when they have become older again. We bought this simply as art, being a fan of Flensted mobiles which are simple in design, yet beautiful (we have a couple of xmas ones too) and well made. It is nicely balanced and makes a nice decorative piece.OK, some people have pointed out it's expensive, but(a) it's not some cheap plastic tat,(b) it is something for all ages to enjoy, and(c) it is more than worth the price of 6 crappy overhyped Starbucks!

While both I and my child love this. I bought it for his nursery and sadly found out it is made of high quality construction paper, then I realized I could have bought one of the (how to make a mobile) books on this site and my own materials and made the same exact thing for about 75% less cost. Don't get me wrong he adores it, and it looks nice,... but the price is just too high for something anyone who can operate scissors could make themselves. I'd also like to note to anyone looking at this for a nursery , it is not a traditional baby mobile that you can attach to a crib, it's meant for adults and you have to tack it into your ceiling. Something to consider if you were hoping to hang it over a crib.
