What a handy thing to have. It's sturdy and makes slicing so much easier. The thickness of the slice is your choice. It cleans up well and the bag that comes with it is perfect for storing it while not being used. I'm not sure why I haven't had one of these until now.!

So nice to be able to cut uniform slices of home made big loaves of sourdough.Once you get the hang of it, you can perfectly slice a loaf. You will need a long slicer knife if you bake big loaves, or you can chop them in half before making your slices.You can set this from skinny loaf to huge loaf.The smallest slice is a good thickness for sandwich bread. the next biggest is a little too fat. I know, waaaaah. But this is a reasonable spacing and thickness of the guides, etc. Nothing is going to be perfect.It cleans up easy. Sometimes the little "filler" inserts fall out but they really aren't needed.I like this thing, it's handy. Not sure what I'd use it for meat for, maybe jerky slices. I got it for bread.

I feel like I should provide this feedback to hopefully help others. This is overall well constructed but as far as I can tell is only really effective for rectangular sandwich loaves (I haven't tried meat). It is nowhere near stable enough to provide an effective guide if cutting round, crusty sourdough. MUCH easier to do freehand. I've never returned an Amazon item due to design issues, I try to do my research but this one has to go back. There was one review saying about the same thing, I probably should have given it more credence.

This works well with the round or oversized artisan breads. I have a cutting guide for bread made in a bread maker but when you have round sourdough or one of the other larger loaves they don't fit, so this was a perfect solution. I can usually get the guide close enough to hold the bread and the thickness of the cut is easy to choose. While the bottom space fillers don't completely cover the bottom with the bread going across most of the base it is easy to rinse it off and the groves catch the crumbs quite nicely.

This item does work quite well once you’ve got it set up. The stainless steel slicer guides are pretty robust and ought to last with a bit of care. I love how you can slice bread loaves up to 11†wide!But I also love thoughtful design and this item is lacking in that area, in my opinion.It does fold up for storage… somewhat… but what would be far better is if the steel guides could be stored inside of the folded tray portion when not in use. This would protect them better. As it is, you can fold the base and the two guides just go into the same bag.Another design flaw are the strips that are designed to fill the gaps in the base when cutting meats. The top surfaces of these strips are punctuated with a series of 25 small, deep, rectangular holes which are perfect for trapping bits of meat, blood, fat, etc. leaving the user the task of trying to clean them out … with a toothpick and magnifying lamp I guess. You’re better off not using them at all and just cleaning out the slots with a brush when done.So, B for usefulness, D minus for design. It cuts bread and meats nicely, but it’s a royal pain to clean if used as designed, and is also a bit tedious to store safely when not in use.
