Nice to use, both in a press and by hand!

Just used this forstner bit and the cut was very smooth and accurate. Diablo puts out good products at a reasonable price.

In the past I have used twist drills and hole-saws. After watching a Bob Clagett video demonstrating Forstner bits I decided to take a chance and try something new It was shocking how nice this was.I had an opportunity to compare it directly to an Irwin Forstner bit. I was impatient while waiting for the Freud to arrive, so I bought the Irwin bit locally. Normally Irwin is a reasonable value brand for tools. But this Freud was so much better it just blew me away. This thing cuts holes that are straight and smooth. I was using it for drilling pine 1x8 boards. The Irwin tended to breakout, even when I drilled halfway and flipped it over to finish the hole. This awesome Freud, on the other hand, cut smooth straight holes with no breakout, even when drilling with just one pass. How does it wear? I've used it for at least 60 holes with no issues or signs of wear. Excellent holes from first to last.Highly recommended!BTW, I still like Irwin for other products, like their speed clamps, and even their "spade" drill bits, but for Forstners, this Freud rules.

I have a set of Forstner bits from Freud not Diablo.I needed some spare 1/4 bits for a project in oak that needed to make quality round splinter free holes about 100 of them. I was surprised to get Diablo and almost returned them but then I saw they were actually a division of Freud. They did the job even though they had burrs on the cutting edges which I touched up with a diamond stone before using. The grind was a bit coarse and after 100 holes one got dull but still was making good holes. Even the original Freud was getting rolled cutting edges so I saw no difference in steel material used in the bits. Even the grind was the same on both, a bit coarse and unfinished. These are disposable bits, to small to resharpen so they are really throw away tools. They did the job but I can’t help but wonder if there was a better steel and a better grind they might last longer. While these got me through the job I will keep looking for a better quality tool.

To provide some background, I'm a hobbyist wood worker, and up until I purchased this product I have only ever used hole saws and spade bits to cut holes. My life as a wood worker has forever changed since purchasing this bit.I've traditionally stuck to spade bits because of the cost. Forstner bits are much more expensive than spade bits but let me tell you something, they're worth it.You know when you put that spade bit in your drill press, turn it on, and see how much wobble their is in the bit? Not the case with this forstner bit. This cuts the cleanest, most accurate holes out of wood I have ever seen. I've used it in both 3/4" MDF Core plywood and 3/4" Birch hardwood.Another advantage to this bit is I don't need to use a drill press to cut holes. If I ever tried that with a spade bit I'd be asking for visit to the doctor. I cut 20 holes out of a piece of Birch and didn't even NEED to clamp the wood down. (You definitely should just to be safe)Overall this thing cuts the best holes I've ever seen.

I bought this to cut inlays for challenge coins. The cuts are very accurate and the bit is easy to use in both a hand held power drill and a desk top drill press.

You just cant beat quality tools and these are no exception. I previously bought the cheep set on amazon and had to return them as they couldnt even drill into a 2x4, these on the other hand are razor sharp out of the box.My only complaint would be that amazon didnt pack them well and the box was pretty banged up in transit, but the bits are fine so i'll live with it.

These are a great value and typical Freud quality. Made in Austria rather than the PRC like most of the other junk these days. They cut hard maple like butter and stay sharp. Awesome!

I had purchased a cheaper set of five that produced nothing but powder. These, however, are quality bits. I've used it to drill eight holes through one inch of plywood with a handheld drill. Sufficient pressure needs to be applied when in operation, to produce clean shavings. The bit remains sharp. Well worth the price.

I always use Freud brand saw blades and router bits. These are my first forstner bits and I was not disappointed.
