We use these all the time to clean and polish metal surfaces. The maroon pads work great for buffing anodized finishes. I also like them for cleaning my stainless sink and pans. Always buff with the grain.

I purchased these in june 2014 looking for something with a a lot of grit to degloss my kitchen cabinets prior to staining along with 2 Holsag bar chairs. I also wanted something that was thicker, more fexible and more durable than sandpaper without all the dust for hard to sand, tight areas on furniture pieces. These work REALLY well when cut into small manageable pieces and dipped into paint thinner for removal of stain and paint where sandpaper is often difficult t manuever and barely breaks the surface. I just had a horrific experience with a popular gel stain that I applied to a dining room hutch that required sanding back to bare wood an was looking at days of work trying to remove this gloppy, sticky stain from corners and beveled areas on the raised panel doors for that hutch. In less than three hours I Have cleaned those areas to 98% back to the original bare wood. something that was I could not have achieved with sandpaper in this short time. Normally I'm not one to get excited over sucha mundane, unexciting product nor would I have probably ever reviewed it. But my latest use of this item in a situation that would have leant me to cry, had I the time or inclination for, saved me at least 4 days of work where I am Already 5 days behind.I clean my stainless steel with this. I use it with Krud Kutter to prep walks before painting all with fantastic results and with less effort and expense using fancy, pricey products. I love this pad and the all the positive reviews aren't lying....these are worth having around and buying them in bulk. 10 star product not 5, inside the home or workshop.Disclaimer: I don't work for 3M, I know of no one who does and no one paid me for singing the praises of product performance. I would buy these again in a heartbeat and if you do need to remove gel stain these work really well even without the use of paint thinner way better than sandpaper for removing the surface stickiness. Please peel me off the ceiling because my heart is singing. Thanks for reading and hope this inspires someone else caught in a sticky and time consuming predicament.

It's simply the best at what it does.- Gets where sandpaper can't- Holds up to moisture- Good longevity- Good bite for scuffing surfaces and cleaning surface rust, deposits, etc.

This deep maroon colored 3M Scotch-Brite model 7447 abrasive pad is truly a wonderful product that has dozens upon dozens of uses. However, I purchased these pads specifically for cleaning various stainless steel products...for which they are *perfect* for the job. After investing, literally, thousands of dollars in new stainless steel appliances & stainless steel sinks for my semi-professional kitchen at home, after just a couple months I started to notice various areas suffering from what looked like small brown "rust" type spots. Interestingly, these "rust" spots were not only on the two brand new stainless steel sinks I have (unique brands of sinks mind you), but also on some of the appliances that are stainless steel. This issue was especially puzzling because, as I alluded to earlier, the stainless steel products were all brand new and were from three distinct manufactures (e.g., Viking, Sub Zero, and Elkay). Of course, the rust/brown marks/pitting only was evident on areas where water had been present (e.g., sink with running water, oven/stove with water splashes, frige/freezer with splashes, etc.).After much investigation I determined that although my fresh water source was otherwise filtered and carefully softened, there was nevertheless slightly elevated levels of iron in the water. Thus, as the water came in contact with the stainless steel items it caused low-level galvanic corrosion.**** Take home message:The end result was, after conferring with the various engineers at the appliance manufacturers, they *all* uniformly recommend that I use this specific type of abrasive pad (i.e., 3M Scotch-Brite model # 7447) on the stainless steel appliance surface (always cleaning with the 'grain' of the steel). Although the specific cleaning agent used with the Scotch-Brite 7447 pad did vary from engineer to engineer, they all stated that a good safe bet is the Bar Keepers Friend powder cleaner (just put the powder on the PAD first, add water sufficient to make it a paste). So, using the Scotch-Brite 7447 with my cleaner, all the 'rust' or corrosion marks on the products vanished! My stainless steel appliances looked quite literally, like new again!

Rated around 320-400 grit, these work perfectly to smooth the engine bay, and for light sanding work before primer.

Simple! These worked really well for cleaning/slightly roughing a surface before painting it, just what I needed. I like that the packaging is just a cardboard box with the product inside, no fillers, plastic wrappers etc.

Much better than the green scotch brite.Great for cleaning pots or bath tubs, de-rusting tools, and cleaning hands.Although I don't think that last one is one of the prescribed uses. But when all else fails, this won't.
