Reduced the heat loss on my old wooden windows by like 75% but could not completely seal it out.

Having to move in winter there was a draft in the new apartment and the maintenance people couldn’t do anything because the air was coming from the AC unit. I got this and was able to seal the areas that the air was coming in. It was easy to cut to the size you need and it was sticky enough to attach to both the AC unit and the wall. It held up great during winter and it’s still holding up. It’s clear so you can’t see the tape itself with is great.

I have used this tape on several windows and I'm still not sure what I think about it. It definitely is a quick fix approach to sealing cracks and it doesn't require any special skill or tools. To some extent, the tape definitely works but the hard thing is that I don't know how well. The cold air flow can definitely be sealed shut, but cold air will still permeate the tape.I don't feel like there is any particular risk to our paint job as I had to lift the tape several times to get it applied just right. It is adhesive and sure but not aggressively so. If done right, it is not very apparent that it is even applied. However, that kind of result either takes a LOT of patience or maybe a natural touch. If not done well, it can look really sloppy. Getting the tape into a corner without it sticking to one side before I was ready took some practice. I found using smaller lengths of tape made the process easier to manage. The package doesn't come with a way to cut the tape and it cannot just be ripped. You will need scissors to make a clean cut. I think this tape is a fine short term solution, but I will likely remove it and caulk/patch for a cleaner, more long term solution.

I live in a studio apartment and I have a bay window with a couch by it. Only one of my windows has storm windows and I had a terrible draft coming in through the other two and my apartment wouldn't budge above 62°F and I live in Boston. I could not go anywhere near my couch by the windows for days because of how cold it was even with a blanket. I don't pay for heating but I do like feeling comfortable in my apartment. The maintenance crew used painters tape on the sides and bottom of the windows but there was still a draft coming in from the top of the windows. I was contemplating if I should get the Window Shrink-Film Insulator kit but I like being able to use the blindsSO.. I came across this. The tape is thick and the material is similar to car decals for glass. Knowing of the 3M brand I know their product's have very strong adhesive that made me skeptical in case it rips off the paint. The adhesive is strong enough to stick to any surface but easy to come of without ripping off the surface or paint while I was applying and adjusting. Since it'll be on there for a couple months I'll see if it rips of the paint at the end of winter. I got this for my window in mid January when it's 15°F outside SO IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO GET THIS DURING WINTER, IT'S A LIFE SAVER. It was easy enough to apply but BE CAREFUL it sticks to the surface really quickly. My apartment went from 60 to 67 degrees within 5 hours. My windows are about 3 1/4 wide by 5 1/4 high. I only used this tape to do the top of the windows so I have quite a bit left over but if I had to seal all 3 windows I would probably need a 2-3 rolls (this is just guessing). The clarity of the tape it good, I barely notice it unless the light is hitting it and creating a sheen. When I'm reading reviews I like being able to see images of the product so I uploaded a photo of how it looks applied to the window frame. Like I said it's barely noticeable (I guess that's why there are no review photos up of it) so I put my fingers over the width of it to show where the tape is. For this window I was lazy to make it fit in the crease of the window so there's a gap but I guess that creates a little insulation pocket.

On the one hand you’ve got drafty windows that you can feel. On the other hand you could use some super sticky semi-permanent tape to get the job done. This tape falls somewhere in the middle. It’s easy to work with, but it doesn’t maintain its stickiness as easily when taping corners and tricky spots. Works well if you have a completely flat surface/gap you are covering. If you can tape a flat surface in one application, then you are good, but if you need to pull the tape up and reseat it, then your stickiness loses a bit. I wouldn’t mind trying a different product that can hold better even with corners and reseating the tape. But, 3M is kinda the king of clear tape. This 10 yard roll got meAbout 3-4 windows (bottom half) of coverage. If you’ve got drafty windows, live where you have a major cold weather event not so often and have no plans to replace your windows soon: give this a try. I did clean my surface, but I admit I did not use alcohol to clean the surface as they suggest. Also, I suggest applying this a day or so before you need it so it last as long as you need it. I doubt it will leave a sticky residue behind.

Brilliant for sash windows that are not double glazed, seals draughts perfectly, is easy to use, and can be stripped off without fuss after winter use. Takes some time to get to England from America but I haven't found a European source yet. Well worth the money.
